Thanks for the info. Do you know how to set up a swap file ? From what I can see, when linux boots up, it does not include swap. If we could configure one, then it might give more headroom to run 'bigger' apps.

If you take out the motherboard, you see on the underside there is a slot . Ah, I have just read a review on Hexus and the implication is that it is a mini-pci slot. Do you know if I can put a memory module in it ? www.hexus.net/content/item.php?item=7501&page=3

Can anyone tell me what RAM module is compatible with the N1200 ? I'd like to add some more RAM so I can run some more intensive apps on the box. Thanks !

I would like to use the N1200 as a means to filter spam from my email, and so set it up as a mail server to download and filter my mail in the background. Then I would connect to it using my Outlook client to finally download and read my mail. Looking at the Debian packages for mail packages.debian.org/etch/mail/ there are a large number ! Many of the packages appear to be 'large' and intended for a bigger machine. They also often are shipped as source and require compilation - which looks to be impossible on the N1200. So, can anyone advise on a suitable mail server that would allow something like spamassassin to work with it ?

Could anyone try taking temp reading with the unit as normal, and then turned upside-down ? Since I am running mine upside down it feels cooler, but I have no measurement of this.

Thanks for info - I'll take a look.
The PSP has a version of the Netfront browser in it, so I can see the N1200 web interface OK. However, when you get to your mp3's, the PSP browser just invites you to download it, rather than launch a player. It has flash v6 in the browser too, but it is slow. However, the PSP has an RSS reader, which can be used to stream content, both audio and video. So, I'd like to take advantage of this to create a sort of RSS 'playlist' which the PSP would then stream. Update. I have got this working in as a 'stand alone', now it need to package into a module. Is anyone interested in it ?

I see that the web interface allows the addition of 'modules', but the user guide provides no more detail on what these are - ie how to create them. I'd like to create a module that builds an RSS feed for mp3's. This way, we will be able to stream to the Sony PSP.

Hi there. From the PS3 web browser, can you access your N1200 by ip address?

Heat

Depending on the installed drive, heat buildup can be a problem. Has anyone got any tips on how to reduce it ? I've noticed that the fan draws air in from the top and pumps out the base. I guess this was done to reduce 'fluff', but I think it will also reduce the efficiency. I will try reversing the fan direction to see if it makes a difference. [Update] Well, I just opened it up and turned over the fan and re-attached it. Then I realised all we have to do is turn the whole unit upside down ! I read somewhere that a fan was more efficient extracting air from a case, so I put the fan back the way it was. Now my N1200 is upside down, there is a lot more airflow through it.

Is it failing to login, or do you get the username / password prompt popping up and never accepting your credentials ? It could be that the credentials used for FTP and map drive are different, in which case, check that your ACL on the N1200 shard folder allow access for the user you are trying to log in with. Hope this helps.

Mine has 3 sources of noise, and I've got rid of one of them ! 1. The fan 2. The disk when 'working' 3. The disk spinning The spinning disk makes a background droan, mainly because it is in physical contact with the desk. So, I've cut out a piece of dense packing foam and put the stand on that. It has made a small improvement. BTW - has anyone noticed but the fax draws air in from the top and expels at the bottom. Would it not be better round the other way - assuming the desk is not too dusty

I am not sure if the N2100 is the same as the N1200 in this respect. The N1200 has a single WAN port which goes up to gigabit and supports jumbo frames. Perhaps yours was setup this way, and it will no longer work on slower network. If so, try resetting the Thecus, by pressing the reset button.

I use the PS3 - works fine, at least for the media that the PS3 supports!
