Some experiences with the Upgrade from 1.00.08 to 1.00.10: - had some problems with folder names containing a space, they suddenly appeared in the folder list as different folders (i.e "My Dir" was after upgrade a folder named "My" and one folder named "Dir"). It was possible to fix it by manually changing the smb.conf file
- Access rights have disappeared, it was possible to login, but no access to folders. The only way to fix it was deleting the users, reenter them and assigne the access rigths again (had this also after the upgrade to 1.00.08)
...
br Peter UPDATED NOTE: Please read the replies to this -- apparently the problems Peter had were possibly due to an already-corrupted system, not the .10 firmware update.Peter -- To me, both of the above are deal breakers. Do you really mean that EVERY folder with a space in the name (I have HUNDREDS, literally) was split into multiple folders? How could Thecus possibly release firmware with such a critical problem?!??!? Is anyone else outraged by this? Thank goodness someone else found it before me. (Sorry Peter!) Have you reported these bugs to Thecus? What was their response?

@cyberwolf: AFAIR peterfu had problems before with his machine, in so far that it behaved strangely (I could be mistaken but I think there were some issues before). For ME neither of these two problems occured when I updated from ..08 to ...10. So don't get so angry most people will probably not have any problem.

I just wanted to report problems I had during upgrade br Peter

Peanuts, Gideon, and Peter, thanks for the reply. I didn't realize Peter was starting with an already possibly corrupt system, and that it was not the .10 firmware that caused these issues for him. Thanks for confirming that you did not have the issues with .10. Sorry if I alarmed anyone else -- see the replies that have been posted already - the issues Peter posted appear to be isolated to his installation.
My main problem is that I bought the N5200 to have massive amounts of reliable storage in case of a (single) hard disk failure. As such I don't have any place to back it up. (Buying a second N5200 and mirroring is not financially feasible -- this is a home-use system.)
The other thing that scares the crap out of me right now is that I have 3x500gb drives in it at RAID-5 and I have only about 40GB free space. I've heard horror stories about adding a 4th or 5th drive and rebuilding the RAID where people have lost their data. So I feel "stuck" right now. Can't add any storage until I backup, but I can't backup because I don't have the space.
Suggestions anyone? (Yes, I know, not part of this thread, I'll consider posting elsewhere. But it is related because it has to do with Thecus' reliability.)

Just a thought...
I love upgrades as much as anyone else, but if you have a "production environment", or "data you really can't afford to lose", you might want to think twice before upgrading your firmware (unless it fixes bugs that are absolutely essential).
There's no such thing as a 100% safe upgrade, and it always has the possibility of damaging something on your system. If you can't afford to lose thing, you might want to consider waiting until many other people have tried the upgrade before you (or simply skip it alltogether).

I think I have found a Bug. I have the N5200B with 1.00.10 installed. If I have the WAN Link Aggregation set to failover, email notification doesn't work. Disable Link Aggregation and Email notification works.

No, but isn't 802.3ad for Link aggregation so I can have both cards acting as one to get more through put? I was running it as failover, so only one port is working at one time, or is it part of the 802.3ad standard? I didn't see failover on the wiki page on 802.3ad. I didn't have the LAN port connected yet, so it was just running off the WAN port. Thx EDIT. yep you do need 802.3ad switch, which I had but it died But as I only had one connected, would this still stop email notification? Got to get a new managed switch again.

They have 1.00.09. After i fixed the useres the way you do some days later they have the same problem again :-( I have tryed this on two Devices.. always the same error. We have 140 Users addet and every User has a own Folder (Homedir). I was told that some ppl are running the N5200 with 400 Users but Thecus tells us only 65 are supported :-( What now?

My settings are
SMTP Server mail.iinet.net.au Port 25 Auth Type login SMTP Account ID <<myaccount>> Account Password << mypasswd>> Confirm Account Password <<mypasswd>> Sender email <<myaccount@iinet.net.au>> Receivers' E-Mail Address <<another email address of mine>>
Works fine with Failover off, doesn't work with Failover on. (well for me anyway)
