Hi, I'm (probably) about to take the plunge and purchase a 5200pro, I've got as far as putting my credit card details into the online order form a couple of times in the past week before I re-gained control Anyway at the moment I'm running openfiler on an old bundle of bits that's been thrown together over the past couple of weeks. It does the job, no way does it look as nice as the 5200pro, it's way bigger and probably is costing me more to run. I using a underclocked athon 64 3800+ x2, clocked (and voltaged) down to 908 mhz, while on idle (all 6 disks spun down) it's drawing 58watts at the mains (240v UK). So I have a few questions. Does the disk spin down feature work in the latest firmware? does it only work with certain drives? Has anyone tried using the smart spindown script www.samwel.tk/smart_spindown/index.html to spin down there drives.....? Any idea what a 5200pro draws at the mains with the disks all spun down? Thanks

My N5200BR PRO takes 55Watt without active HDD.
With active HDD it take 85Watt.
Highest Power consumption ist 180Watt when it boots and all drive (5) spin up.
I don´t know what it takes if the HDDs spin down because it doesn´t work.

thanks for taking the time to reply I couldn't hold off any longer, I am expecting delivery of my 5200pro any minute now. Looking at your figures it seems that I need to get my disks spining down by some means...or I am not going to get any power saving over the server that is currently running openfiler.... Would I be correct in thinking that Germany has a 110/120 volt mains supply ?

I think he wanted to ask if the power supply is a multi-range power supply (so able to work with 110/230 Volts But at the moment I cannot find any refernce for this, sorry.... Andreas

No I was just refering to the mains supply voltage.... was hoping Germany was 110v, since we have 220v that would half the wattage (about) reported by brenner.

OK the 5200pro has arrived. Inserted 3 500gb WD disks and surprise surprise spin down don't appear to work. All 3 disks spunup it's drawing 65 watts. With them spun down (manually with hdparm -y /dev/sda ....) it's pulling 44 watts...not bad. 14 watts less than the box it's here to replace. Just now need to get me auto apindown scripts working!

No, thats not true for a simple reason: Watt = Volt * Ampere (to write it in words). For that, the Box will consume about half the current on 230V compared to the 110V. But the Watt will stay the same .... CU Grumpftl
