Can i put them in a thecus 2050 ? i -think- (because i haven't been able to find something from Thecus saying one way or the other) that the internal SATA in the N2050 is SATA I and not SATA II. If this is the case, as long as this drive can be jumpered down to SATA I / 150MB/s like the WD2500JS, then the drive should probably work in the N2050. That being said, the "compatibility report" sites a few 300MB/s drives working; it doesn't make mention of whether those drives had to be jumpered down though.

The Official List is VERY OLD! I have a successful RAID 1 installation with two Seagate ST3320620AS drives. These are 320 GB, 7200 RPM 16 MB cache SATA2 drives. Jumpered to allow operation at 3Gb/s and connected to the eSATA interface card. Very fast. Array build time was very short - I wasn't sure it had occurred.

Is there an updated list for the N2050 compatible hard drives?

I've just installed two 320GB Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 drives (ST3320620AS) and they work fine

i -think- (because i haven't been able to find something from Thecus saying one way or the other) that the internal SATA in the N2050 is SATA I and not SATA II. The quick installation guide says "Experence (sic) the speed of 3Gb/s", and inside "SATA II - Up to 3 Gbps". Having said that, I have not tested a SATA 3.0 drive. I am successfully using a pair of SATA 1.5 WD4000KD. I assume when we say SATA I/II we are referring to SATA 1.5/3.0 drives here.

I have just created a RAID1 install with two Seagate ST3400620AS - 400GB, 7200RPM 16 MB cache SATA2 drives. Jumpered to allow operation at 3Gb/s and connected and connected via USB2. Array build time only took a couple of seconds. So far everything looks good - they are currently formatting. Update: Been running a few days now. Had a brief moment of drive 'clinking' but everything seems pretty stable now. Little noisy while active. Very fast.

Can someone confirm if the Seagate Barracuda ES 500gbytes disks will work in a N2050? For future capacity upgrades, does someone use already 750gb or the Hitachi 1tb disks in it?

Hi all...
So, is it just me, or does everyone else think Thecus are pretty d**n hopeless when it comes to updating their compatibility charts?
Anyway, does anyone know if either of the following 500Gb drives will work in an N2050?
Samsung HD501LJ Seagate ST3500630AS or Seagate ST3500630NS (the raid version of the above)

Hitachi HDS722525VLSA80 (250GB) HDDs seem to be incompatible with N2050.
I've installed two used HDS722525VLSA80 HDDs in the N2050 and could not set up RAID (neither 0 or 1). After reading the FAQ, I found out that Thecus recommends to use brand new HDDs that do not contain any data. I deleted the partitions and MBRs on the HDDs, but they still didn't work with the N2050. The Hitachi Drive Fitness Test stated that the HDDs are technically O.K. I'll give one more try and will delete all data on the HDDs by overwriting it with zeros. Quite disappointing so far.
