RAID 5. Just wish I'd seen the tip about loging-out of the admin console during the build - THIRTEEN HOURS it took!

What RAID level are you using on your N4100/N4100+? N4100+ RAID 5 4 * 500 GB SATA I am just on the way to create it. The webfrontend says it will take 4000 min = 66 hours ... Is that true, that I am not able to access the RAID in write data to it until the RAID build is finished???

Dont do anything to it while its building the raid. Im running RAID 5 with 3 X 1TB hard drives currently. It took about 24 hours to build the array.
The only problem I have now is the really nuts transfer speeds over the network which everybody has because of the sub-standard CPU in this device!
I hope it can stream movies etc ok over the network because if not ill be sending it back and never ever buying another Thecus product ever again!

Raid 5 with 4 x 1TB SAMSUNG HD103UJ
took 21hrs to get to 75% and another 20hrs ish to complete
it feeds 2 wireless media pc's and a wired media player with no problems even when all 3 are on and it is receiving ftp uploads
but i agree file transfer is not fast 5mb/s write and 8mb/s read so it took a while to transfere 1TB of movies and tv shows i had on 2 seperate 500mb nas boxes

I too, am running 4 x 500GB drives in RAID 5.

I'm running 4100pro with 4 x 1tb drives in RAID5 - took 8hours to create (overnight). but, I'm not happy with the data transfer rate - much slower than my old single drive NAS.

4x 1.5 TB seagate drives in a RAID5 took about 11 hours. When I started it said 26 hours (in minutes).

Moinsen, I drive my N4100PRO at RAID 10. Best perfomance during the best assurance. I miss the RAID 10 at the votes. Regards, paralipophobia

For the N4100PRO, Thecus has raised the stakes by more than doubling the data transfer performance of its predecessor, delivering data transfer speeds of 35MB/sec! Equipped with the N4100PRO, media enthusiasts and SMBs don't have to wait around when accessing their data.
