You need to know ssh, be interested in trying out a cutting edge (command line only) torrent client and have time to play with the module. Someone who could write a php config interface would be more than welcome as well. I do not have time for that myself. If you are up to the challenge I'll have an rtorrent module for you! have fun getmythe

Hey getmythe I'd love to test it out! Previously I was running a debian install with rtorrent self compiled, gave up on that and returned to the thecus firmware due to the hdd read/write speed problems there were with the debian firmware. Considering returning to debian as soon as this fault is fixed so I could go back to running rtorrent on it, but with this module I wouldn't have to. majority

Fantastic getmythe! I knew that there was a possibility for a different bit torrent module. In my investigations, cyla, who does the php front end for rtwi on rtorrent. If you have time i would say try and enquire if he can help with a much simpler front end, he was more than happy to talk to me for 4 hours about it!
Anyways, any testing please let me know!

Hi ferg,
as you know from your own investigation the php delivered with the N2100 does not not have many extensions built in. Adding new ones is a task way beyond my skills, e.g. never going to happen. That's why most of the fancy php code found out there will never run on the Thecus.
If you do not like the cmd line interface of rtorrent, why don't you give the ntorrent remote interface a try? As for myself, I plan on using the shared folder method. It does not get any simpler than that.

getmythe, i did not intend to make offence at your efforts. They are far more than i could ever do. I would love to help you in anyway possible making this new module work. The shared folder idea is brilliant - much less to worry about than php interfaces! please accept my apologies if my tone offended you, it was not my intention.

I do not feel offended Might be my poor use of the English language which made it sound like I was. Anyhow, my point is that your hopes are set rather high. Whereas for myself I do not believe that there will be a nice web gui anytime soon. Best to look for alternatives which is either the cmd line interface or maybe ntorrent.

no problems getmythe! i have installed the module already and have some thoughts. There is a page on the rtorrent website that documents performance tuning. In our case this would be as simple as altering the .rtorrent.rc file. Have you already modified this to suit the n2100 or is it good to experiment for optimal settings? At the moment i have change my upload speeds, and day and night settings, and so far i am getting good speeds! Now i will play with the ntorrent front end. oh, one quick question, i assume i can use rtorrent command(listed here) to pause all activity etc? So far everything is great with the ssh interface!

I did setup a few things. Nothing related to performance though, more feature oriented stuff. Please go ahead and try to work on performance. I'm currently working with majority to get key bindings on the command line working properly. Terminal settings are causing some key combinations not to work.

I've got Good News!
thx to the debugging support of majority the rtorrent module is now working in both firmware versions 2.1.05 and 2.1.06. It's time to do some fine tuning now (performance, gui options, ...).
