rookie, good catch! META will not display the correct documentation if there is a startup and a shutdown script with the same name, oh well! Will be fixed in upcoming release 2.2.00 within the hour. Thx for pointing out the issue. Get www.freeside.ch/thecus/N2100-META-2.2.00.tgz now! cheers getmythe

Starting with version 7.0, SlimServer is now named SqueezeCenter.
Will the meta scripts support installation of version 7.0 when is is finally released? Seems new products (Squeezebox Duet) will require SqueezeCenter to run.

Squeezecenter is already supported for quite some time. The (hidden) installer script has a variable to choose between Slimserver and Squeezecenter. But, sqeezcenter is still alpha and breaks quite often. I cannot recommend it right now.

Help me out - I'm looking through slimserv.me - cannot see any references to squeezecenter or slimserver 7.0. Where should I be looking?

Best to use the most recent version of META 2.3.01. It allows you to switch between slimserver and squeezecenter installation within the startup script. Go to directory /raid/module/META/startup/ and edit slimserver.sh. Comment the line
touch /raid/module/"$mod_name"/startup/.slim-installer and delete file .slim-installer in case it does exist.
Backup you existing slimserver installation and then reboot your n2100. You will still need your old installation, trust me on that one. Squeezecenter is not usable in it's current state.
mv /raid/slimserver /raid/slimserver.backup Squeezecenter may or may not be installed. The debian archive is re-generated daily and changes it's name from time to time. Check file /tmp/slimserver-install.log to see what is going on. Once the install is done, reboot once more.
Never ever remove /raid/slimserver while slimserver is running as you will delete all your music

Thanks getmythe. Planning on adding a Squeezebox Duet to our collection in the next month and 7.0 is required - will let you know how it all goes.

Launched the script yesterday; it does not work currently since the naming scheme for the .deb of squeezecenter has changed (build number is part of file name). There will be an updated installer for you to try out within a day or two.

Release META 2.3.02 now contains a working squeezecenter beta installer routine. While running SQ7 warning and error messages are written to /raid/slimserver/var/log/squeezecenter/server.log. Check that file to see if there are any problems.
Stick to the procedure described above to have SQ7 installed.

Thanks getmythe.
I see this version of the script allows for installation of 6.5.5 as well as SQ7. The addition of an upgrade routine is also very nice.
I'm OS until the 27th so will not get the opportunity to play until then. Thanks again for your efforts.

I'm trying to install Simserver 6.5.5. I have installed META 2.3.01 and selected the install Slimserver options and rebooted the N2100 but the installation has failed. I've poked around within an SSH session and found that the installation scripts failed with
wget ...... (network is unavailable) errors.
My N2100 is readily accessible by all computers on my home network and all of these can access the internet without trouble so I do not believe my router/firewall settings are wrong.
From my yesbox I can ping any device on my home network. I cannot ping e.g bbc.co.uk but I CAN ping it from a windows terminal session that goes through the same router. DNS services are working on the N2100 (it resolves bbc.co.uk to 212.58.224.131). ergo I am missing some network setup on the N2100.
Can anybody help?

Ah! jumping from one thread to another Ok, here's a little something you can try rm /etc/resolv.conf; echo "nameserver 192.168.1.1" > /etc/resolv.conf In the above example I assume that 192.168.1.1 is the IP of your local router (home gateway, firewall or whatever you may call it). E.g. to be changed to match your setup. It will work, trust me ;D getmythe

getmythe,
Yes I know - a shocking breach of protocol! But maybe I get some help here! Mucho apologies...
The nameserver is functioning correctly. "ping bbc.co.uk" correctly resolves the IP address but gets no further. Still, I tried your suggestion (although it simply replicates what I had before) and I get the same failure.

Hi getmythe, Got back home on Sat. Installed your updated Meta module Modified the scripts as detailed and now have SqueezeCenter up and running. No problems to report (now into day three and has not skipped a beat yet). Thanks again for your help and for the Meta module. Sharmy

Hi there! Pardon me for jumping in... I own a Thecus 2100 and have been using the modules provided on freeside.ch to add functionalities. The installation/activation of the modules is very easy and worked out very well for me. Now, however, I have ordered a Slim Devices Transporter and need to install a current version of SlimServer. This thread is about installing SlimServer on a Thecus 2100 - however, as far as I understand it, it's not a module that is installed but some kind of script is used to do the install. Where can I find a step-by-step instruction on how to run this script on my Thecus 2100? I am not familiar with Linux and haven't been on the command line level so far... Your support is much appreciated! Cheers from Stuttgart, Germany! Markus
