Hi all, I just installed FANRPM on my n2100 (FW2.1.03.1) and see the following behaviour: My system usually runs at a temperature between 31 and 42 degrees C; before installing FANRPM the system reported a fan speed of about 4545RPM. Now that FANRPM is installed the fan speed does not drop below 8875RPM (current temp is 40C) --- which in my eyes is way too much! I assume this just what is displayed and the speed actually did not change at all? So what actually was my idea behind installing FANRPM: I wanted to try out if the fan speed could be set to an even lower value than my observed 4545RPM when temp drops below 35 degrees. Actually this failed I will try a bit with the scripts coming with FANRPM --- but maybe someone has an idea, if it is possible to slow down the fan even more with this really nice tool?

Hi olf,
FANRPM will never show a value higher than 7k rpm. Either something has gone wrong during installation of the module or the module itself is not compatible with the beta firmware you are using. Try to re-install the module first. If you still get rpm values above 8k rpm then get rid of the module as it is not compatible with the firmware you are using.
cheers getmythe
PS: I never install beta firmware, so no module updates from my side until we get a non-beta firmware.

Hi getmythe, thanks for your answer --- but now I'm really confused: :-)
I've not updated my firmware version but got it like this out of the box! And actually I have not observed anything that does not work as expected until now.
As far as I can see the FANRPM module installation went smooth (at least I see the new crontab entry and the new files in the module directory). Just the high rpm value displayed makes me shiver a bit.
That leads me to an additional question ... is there a logfile written during module installation where one could find out, if there where any problems during the installtion process?
Nevertheless I'm still working on my original aim: Slow down the fan even more when the system is nearly asleep and cooled down to less then 35 degrees. :-)
Thanks again!

Hi olf,
module FANRPM will enable you to use system fan speed setting 'medium' whenever the temperature is below 40 Deg Cel (by setting threshold mode 'low'). If you want to further optimize the rpm value you need module FANCTRL. It will give you full control over the fan speed parameters.
Be careful! You are the first to try out these modules in Firmware 2.1.03.1.
