#smartctl -a -d ata /dev/sda
I think this is how you get the SMART info from the HDDs, but I was told by Thecus support that do not use when there is traffic to/from the RAID. Thecus has modified the SATA controller driver and they don't handle this well. So, use this command at your own risk.

I my opinion the warning by Thecus doesn't make sense.... Is it possible to see some SMART values in the administration HTTP pages? If yes, Thecus themselves are using the same command to get them and if they were doing the same programming than on my N5200 they don't pay any attention on how busy the drives are. So watching the SMART values using their HTML administration pages would also risk the health of your drives.... Andreas

As far as I know that the SATA controllers are different on N2100 and N5200. I don't know if the use the same driver, and I personally did not see the problem mentioned by Thecus Support. I just posted it here for other people to see. If it actually happens to you, please post it here and let others to see what actually happened.
