Aloha!
I'm using the n2100 a lot for streaming my music to my soundbrifge in my bed room or my notebook in my living room. And someday I was very annoyed because while lying in bed I heard the system fan of the n2100 spinning around in the room nearby. Therefore I diceded that either the n2100 has to be banned to a room further away, whoch would have been quite complicated or that this system fan had to vanish.
The day after that, I started to play around with the tiny system fan. First try: putting a rubber band between the fan and the chassis. Not much improvement, though.
Second try: I placed the system fan on the outside and connected it with a small self made air "tunnel" with the chassis. Much better, but still very loud. But that proofed that the fan could be placed on the outside.
Third try: I organized a 80mm fan that is running really silent on put it on the outside of my n2100. I used duct tape to attach the fan to the chassis. This way the fan gets its air from the inside of the n2100. Done!
Now I have a n2100 that runs very silent and even a bit cooler than before (40° C under load - copiying data from the n2100 to another directory on the n2100).
Big improvment I think - but I surely wont win a design price with it ;D

Could you post a picture somewhere for others to see?

What if you put in two 2.5" SATA HDD? then you probably don't even need a fan ;D

I second the picture request. It just seems like a 80mm fan is a bit large - how about a 60mm?

digging this thread up again. any pics ?? I've rigged up a 120mm fan mounted on folded cardboard in place of the lid. Temps heaps lower. I want lower temps and less noise. I'm still experimenting with fans. I'm only trying low noise, low amp rated fans. The Silenx Ixtrema Pro (ix-12025-14) didn't want to spin up reliably My old Nexus (part# unkown) is fine. Mike...
