Dear Thecus users and support,
I own a Thecus N4100 1st Generation, firmware 1.3.06.
I submitting the following technical important questions for which I could find no detailed documentation:
(1) Which RAID management software (and versions) are internally used by Thecus N4100 to configure, create and manage a RAID assembly:
- Md
- Mdadm?
- LVM (Linux Volume Manager)?
- LVM2,
- Raidtools,
- Misc. Thecus' RAID proprietary tools?
(2) Partition topology?
(2.a) What is the partition topology of a RAID-0 physical disk configured with Thecus N4100?
NOTE: Please note I am pointing at ONE disk involved in the RAID-0 array, not the virtual assembled RAID device itself...
- Does the disk contain 1 partition? more than one partition?
- At least 1 data (RAID) partition to contain the data?
- For each partition created by the N4100 on the disk:
* Which filesystem: EXT2, EXT3, Proprietary modified EXT2 or EXT3 filesystem? XFS? Other...?
* Description / usage of the partition.
* Is this partition necessary to rebuild the array?
* Is a special / patched Linux kernel required to read this filesystem?
(2.b) Same question as (2.a) for the final assembled RAID-0 device.
(3) What are the (internal / default) RAID parameters used by Thecus N4100 to configure / create a RAID-0 array with 4 identical disk in its rack?
* Chunk size?
* RAID metadata type version: 0.90, > 1.00 ?
(4) Considering the following ordering of the 4 disks inserted in Thecus N4100:
DISK 1: top
DISK 2: ...
DISK 3: ...
DISK 4: bottom,
in which order does the N4100 assemble the 4 disks together as a RAID-0 device?
- Combination 1: disk1, disk2, disk3, disk4?
- Combination 2: disk4, disk3, disk2, disk1?
- Another order?
Thanks for helping,
chown6471
