Hi,
i purchased a n0503combo and im satisfied so far, but wouldn't it be nice to have a suspend or hibernate function/mode, to which the NAS goes (i.e. after 15min without any traffic), to save energy ? OK, the system shuts down the HDDs after some time, but the NAS (lighting, fan...) is still running.
For example, i sometimes receive files from some of my friends, therefore i created a guest account (no admin rights) for them, at first they have to wake up the NAS by a WOL, then they can access the WebDisk an up- or download files, but then the NAS is running the remaining day till the scheduled power off shuts it down at night.
What do you think, wouldn't such a function be usefull ??
Regards,

Hi,
I've been playing with my newly acquired N503 and have managed to write a couple of python scripts to wake it up and shut it down from Xbox Media Center (XBMC).
The WOL is standard send a magic packet stuff.
To do SOL I had to mimic a couple of website calls so it looked as if I was logging onto the web interface as the admin user and then use the showndown option. works like a charm.
In your case its not exactly what you want for remote users having access to the admin account details locally. But if you have a web server up or some other way to connect to your home network, perhaps you could do the same thing?
Hope this helps.
