Ive got a little problem maybe somebody could help me with it.
If i give a file a long name then browse abit through the directorys and get back to the directory were i gave that file a long name it automaticly changes in a few letters .. its abit like NETBIOS name for win 9x.
I searched for it and came with the next thing "Short Preserved case" it should be added or changend in the smb.conf of the NAS i used the SSH to connect it and opened the smb.conf in (/etc/samba/) in the global section i added.
is this the good way to do it or is there another way to fix that problem?

The smb.conf is rebuild on every boot. A possible way would be to install the META module and then make the changes with a startup script and then restart the samba server within this script - but don't use the samba startup script of the N5200, casue then the smb.conf will be rebuild again. br Peter

Using Putty for SSH, and Linux Ubuntu 8.04 32 bit. To explorer throw the directorys on the nas.

For accessing the file via ssh you can use the escape character "\" - so for renaming a file with the filename "-=test.txt" type in the console "mv -\=test.txt test.txt" - then the file is renamed to "test.txt" or If the file is the only one starting with "-" just type in "mv -" then press tab.

I Couldnt rename it because the mv command didnt know if it was a file i was refering to but it understanded as an option.. because my file name started with a - . I tried also by getting 1 directory back like mv /a/-file But still it just couldt get it right. Its ok now im just putting it back on from my computer and renaming it correct. I like my files to start with a strange character(s) like -= but i read the changelog of firmware 2.0.0.12 and it said 25. The following characters are not allowed to be included in the name used for files or folders on the N5200. / \ : * ? ” < > | [ ] = + ; ,so my dir. start now with #. Peter thank your very much for your help ;D
