Ok, O I've spent the last 3 hours trying to get my 3200 to work correctly...
Let me start with that I have a Dlink DI-524 router with wireless.
Obviously the N3200 from Thecus
I've got my dyndns name, filled in the blanks in the n3200, enabled http etc as well.
but I cannot access it via the dyndns name
I've tried port forwarding (virtual server) on my router, didn't work, tried to DMZ the ip of the thecus through my router, didn't work either, and I even tried to enable ddns/dydns in my router, and that didn't work either
I've searched and I've searched and finally found this site but no answer here either..
please help with this, I was going to use this to allow staff of my website to send me their content, access to information, and so I can access information when I'm gone as well...

This doesn't immediately solve your problem, but I have got DDNS working on mine ... so at least I can confirm that there isn't an issue with the N3200.
I am using DynDNS as my DDNS service provider. I did have to turn on DDNS within my router.
I'll check my settings in further detail when I get home and get back to you, but in the mean time you might try getting FTP working, or even remote administration of your router, just to prove that the DDNS mechanism itself is working.

no but thanks anyway.. the dydns system works both on the box and my router.. or at least it seems to, there's some reason it's not connecting to the n3200 and I can't figure it out..
could it be because it's not the 'first' piece of hardware on the router or network?
Would it matter if I connected it to my computers second ethernet port instead of directly to the router?
it's there, I can access it on my own network via http and ftp, but just not from outside..
I'm about to get a Qnap box as well with more features, and I want to get this problem solved as I can see I'll be running into it there as well...

The easiest way is to give this job to your router which can associate your wan Ip with your Url via Dyndns.
I m afraid that the n3200 associate its Ip adress (something like 192.168.X.X) to the dyndns url.

I just checked my router (linksys WRT54GL) and I don't think there is anything all that special set up.
Service: DynDNS.org System: Dynamic User Name: me Password: mypassword Host Name: me.homeip.net Mail Exchange: none Backup MX: No Wildcard: Off Internet IP Address: XX.XX.XX.XXX Status: DDNS is updated successfully
I have a fixed IP for the N3200 and I forward port 80, and 21 to that IP for http and ftp
I also have my DMZ disable

So you have : - Configured your router to use the dyndns dynamic url - Redirected your nas ports from your router (80, 443, etc.) Did you try using ip ? ex : http://YourWanIp I can see that you don't activate the wildcards so you don't have to add the three www before your url. ex according your value : me.homeip.net

I think I got it now...
it was the virtual server settings or port forwarding, I thought they were enabled as they were in the list but then I noticed they had 0.0.0.0 for the ip address...
it seems to work now..
going to get my buddy to try it out and see for me

Ok, we re going to test the dyndns settings first.
I know that the wrt54g offer you the possibility to access it over wan by http (and https) on the port of your choice (if you choose 80, don't forget to remove the old nas port forwarding).
First thing is to test if you can access the main http router page from the wan.

do you mean remote admin?
sorry but I'm rather new to this.. I know enough to get my wireless and home networks running, I've not had much experience in networking...
