28 and a half hours migration from 3 Hiitachi 1TB Raid5 system to 4x1TB ended with the screen  but I do not want NEW - I want my old (expanded) Raid back  And this is Log file:  |

It is a bit of a worry because the same has just happened to me... Did you resolve the issue?

That is scary, when I migrated from 4 x 500gb RAID5 to 5 x 500gb RAID5. It took just over 24 hours and I was worried the whole time especially when it slowed down and took over 2 hours to move off 80%. I was so glad when it finally went to 81% that I decided to go out and celebrate and when I got back home it had finished.
I hope you have luck getting back your data, you may be able to get it back with "RAID reconstructor" and "get data back" or you could try Restorer2000 Pro. I used them when I lost my last RAID5 after the motherboard failed to recognize the array, that is actually the reason I bought the N5200 to send the recovered data to.

No, I don't think they have a Linux version but surely there must be something out there that does the same thing in Linux.
What they do is make a virtual RAID and then you are able to scan that for the data. RAID reconstructor is useful when you don't know the details (block size, drive order etc.) of the RAID because it scans for all possibilities and suggests the most likely configuration.

Toobs, thanks for that reference to iRecover. I just used it on my hard drives and got off some stuff that Recovery2000 and Get Data Back weren't able to find. I had to buy it in order to use it but it was well worth it for the data I was able to recover.
Very easy to use and relatively quick.

That is scary. Another good example of importance of backup!
I recently experienced one of my 750GB WD AAKS drives in the 5200pro RAID5 volume going bad, so I quicky copied all the contents to another Infrant NV+ NAS (4x1TB WD GreenPower) that I build over the weekend. Luckily everything copied over with no problem.
I took the bad drive to the Achieva (WD distributor in Singapore) service centre and got a new replacement drive. As I was running out of space on the 5200pro, instead of opening the new 750GB drive, I replaced all the drives in the 5200pro with 5x1TB WD GreenPower drives. Spent abpuot 14 hours building the Raid5 volume, then found that one of the 5 drives had over 400 relocated sectors (and over 400 seek errors). Went back to the service centre again and got a replacement 1TB drive (luckily they had a few in stock). Now began the process of volume RAID5 recovery (another 14 hours to go :-( ) Will copy all the files back onto this NAS asap so I have a backup of everything again.....

The files that Recovery2000 and Get Data Back weren't able to find mostly Xvid movies. I don't know why but neither of them were able to find them so I had lost over 500 movies, iRecover was able to find everything.

Unfortunately I don't have a machine at home that could attach 5 SATA drives to attempt recovery via one of these programs. I'm not too worried about the data. It is all recoverable over time.
What I am concened about is that it can happen at all when nothing seems amiss with the device otherwise. In summary without showing any prior issues it failed to perform a raid migration from 4 disks to 5. The same process worked from 3 disks to 4 using the previous firmware version. So what went wrong? Can it yet be recovered.
I am still waiting to see if technical support can do something with it.

It looks like the issue is not unrecoverable. Thecus Technical Support connected to my N5200 worked some magic and low and behold we are working again.
Scratch one more mark on the happy customer post Thecus.

I am running my raid5 migration from 4 x 500gb to 5 x 500gb drives at the moment, started at 20:00 last night and is looking like taking 24 hours.
I am absolutely bricking it after reading some of the horror stories on here about loosing data.
