Hi folks,
I got the N1200 for the DLNA capability I want on my home network but I think I got two duds so far...
The first gave a continuous error tone buzzer. Every time I switched it on with a hard drive fitted (Seagate 750Gb 7200.10) the unit came on for a few seconds (constant buzzing) and then switched off completely. With the hard drive removed the unit stayed on but buzzed continuously until I switched it off. I have tested the hard drive in my pc and I know it works.
So I got the N1200 exchanged and this one is having connection issues. Whether I connect using the LAN or the WAN I get a physical connection light from the port but 'limited or no connectivity' in Windows. Both on my Shuttle PC (XP) and my Acer Laptop (Vista), so the Setup Wizard can't find the N1200.
Am I doing something obviously wrong or have I just received two faulty units one after the other?
Thanks Jas

Can you ping the N1200 ? The factory default is 192.168.1.100. I suppose your notebook/PC is in 192.168.1.x segment.

Just tried pinging again and got 'destination host unreachable'. I thought maybe i'm not giving it time to initialise so i left it for 10 minutes and got the same thing. I get that with the LAN and WAN ports.
I think i'll send it back... again.

hrm... sounds similar issue that I had... The problem occurred when I had screwed the hdd to the unit. funny enough, when unscrewed(loose) the device would work, as it seemed to sit more flush with the HDD to Device connector. Read another post while looking at the issue with my unit, there appears to be a manufacturing issue with the screw holes and the bracket being out just less of a milimeter.... One guy taped the HDD in place and I had simply ensured that the HDD was pressed tightly into the bracket and then firm against the connecter to get this fiddly thing working. No issues after this

Agree. If the HDD is electrically secured, the HDD LED (blue) will light up for at least half sec during power up. Adjusting the screw position should help if the HDD LED doesn't light up. Besides, one issue for long beep alert is the fan dead. If the system cannot detect a reasonable rotation speed of the fan, it will issue long beep every half an hr. I have replaced a two wire fan with the existing fan 3 wire fan, N1200 will beep every half an hr. And the rotation speed is 11rpm, which may be an offset value.
