I'm sure I'm not the only one that finds vi unnecessarily complicated and user un-friendly (sorry you *nix regulars that love it)
I remember using the Joe editor on a BSD box whilst at university and it was a pretty user friendly editor, even for a newbie ;D
Could someone with a Linux box compile it for the N5200 and send me the files and I'll try make the module for it and type up a guide to using it for other n00bs like me.
Cheers

I love vi - not because it is user-friendly, because it isn't
- however, its a small program that starts really fast
- its a standard on all decent OS' ;D
- and finally you are able to get most of the editing done with it

Woo-hoo!!! I've just managed to get Joe working on my N5200! ;D I copied the binaries from an Ubuntu Linux (Edgy) system to the NAS and, as predicted by Omega, it worked! Now I just gotta figure out how to: a) copy the necessary binaries into a single tarball storing their paths b) Figure out how the install scripts etc work in the module. (I figure Omega's Jinzora module will be a good starting point for this) c) Figure out what I have still got to figure out BTW, is there anyone out there that would like the Joe editor on their N5200? Oh, and I never disagreed with you guys that vi is a good editor. It's passed the test of time and if it wasn't a good editor it wouldn't be around anymore. Just for simple folk like myself Joe is a lot easier to use. (Translated, I'm not gonna take the flamebait )

Hi Arctra, just when I read your (nice) complaint nobody helps you with the joe binary I was about to send it to you. But then I read your posting here and I'm happy that you now realized that almost every not too young 32-bit Linux system. You're right: writing a module which just installs a bunch of files is the most easy task. Just copy the files (in your case only the joe exe) to the system subfolder. The install script is just a oneliner calling FileAttr 755 .... in order to ensure that the mode is set to 755 (executable for all). I already wanted to start to write a guide for the module support library I've written (module.lib) but the next few weeks I'll not have the time for it, sorry. I'd appreciate if someone wants to help.... If you have any questions, please ask..... Andreas

Arctra, I would like the Joe editor also. I find vi challenging to be kind. Being a Linux newbie I think Joe at the moment would be easier and it has my name to boot! I can manually add as you did without the module packaging. Appreciate your help.
