At least the email notification issue has not been solved.
Too afraid to reboot via webbrowser (to test whether issue with WD500SY has been solved).....

According to Thecus support the email notification should work with the next release....

Don't expect too much from this new version.....
As there are still no release notes and I wanted to know what really changed between 1.00.04 and 1.00.05, I compared these two versions and there are not too many changes...... especially no one I hoped to see......
As you might know, most of the software comes as images stored in so called .rom files. There are 4 such .rom files: imgbin_v1.rom, mod_2.6.rom, opt_v1.rom and www_v1.rom. These file are cloop read-only mounted on startup and they contain most of the software.
So I compared the contents of these .rom files and here is a list of the main differences:
mod_2.6.rom (mounted on /lib/modules): - The usb network driver zd1211.ko was modified - The kernel NFS daemon driver nfsd.ko was modified
opt_v1.rom (mounted on /opt): - Some executables of the SAMBA package have been updated - although the version still is 3.0.22
www_v1.rom (mounted on /img/www): - Some minor changes and bug fixes in severel html files - Initial support for DLNA Media Server setup html pages. It seems that Thecus will support DLNA in the future..... (see http://www.dlna.org).
imgbin_v1.rom (mounted on /img/bin): - /img/bin/rc/rc.DLNA is called on startup and therefore the DLNA media server gets started. So this feature should be available starting with 1.00.05. - There is a new config variable netsnmp which indicates, that SNMP support might be available in the future. But this is only a guess! - More changes on the snapshot support code - still not clear if the snapshot feature is finished and working or not.
These are the major changes I could find. Of course there are some more files in the update, but these files are either not so important or I cannot see the real differences. The linux kernel was changed (the image changed so it was recompiled) but the kernel version is still the same.
I'm happy to see that Thecus is actively supporting this product. I'd only wish that they talk to their customers, e.g. in this forum.
Hope you are interested in these findings.
Bye
Andreas

Updated my primary N5200 and the only noticeably change is the Media Service now has mediabolic software branding
It does seem to work with my Divco M4000P better

Can someone help me? I installed Firmware 1.00.05 this morning and I've been stuck at 99% ever since. Any ideas as Thecus customer support is AWOL.... I have successfully installed upgrades in the past... I am currently running 1.00.04.9... Please help if you can. Thanks in advance. ;D

I would reboot if I could but if I return to the web interface at this point and I select either Firmware or Reboot, I get a screen that says.. "Running" If I take a look at the system info I see that the system still sees version 1.00.04.9. I have been able to get the upgrade to give me the Firmware Status Fail screen by reloading the original page from my browser history. When I do this the process simple starts over again and stalls at 99% again. Any more ideas. I could try a Restore System defaults, or simply turn power on and off again. Neither seems very appealing...

slowbot, difficult to tell what to do: I've actually checked the upgrade script and I wasn't able to identify any command which might stall the update process. The update algorithm is quite simple: the web page starts the upgrade script and waits for the message 'success' or 'fail' in the file /tmp/message. While waiting for that message it keeps the progress bar going. There is no other feedback from the upgrade script, so the speed and the time the process bar needs to reach 99% is always the same. This means, that the update script somehow was not able to write the final 'success' or 'fail' to /tmp/message. The only reason for this is that the upgrade process started a command which stalled. In order to predict if power cycling your box will harm your system, we need to know where the upgrade scripts currently stands. If you have ssh access to your system, you might check the output of ps: check the commands at the end of the output or post the output here. If you don't have to lose a lot (the raid is not affected anyway) just power-cycle the box and try the whole procedue again, though. Good luck, Andreas

seems that nobody else has the problem:
since update to 1.00.05 the disk power management doesn't work any more. It worked great with the official version 1.00.04
I run RAID5 with 5 drives, mixed configuration with Seagate, Maxtor and WD disks 250 and 400 gig.
any thoughts?
Chris

Is it because of the Media Server is running?
