My office bought a n5200 last christmas. Its running on RAID5 with 5 WD 500GB hardisk installed, with 1 HDD set as spare. Its been working fine, till a few weeks ago when, one of the disk degraded. Then today, another disk degraded, and when i did a cold reboot, all the disks shows "OK". but now i cant find my share folders. On the RAID information page, everything shows N/A. ON the lcd screen also shows RAID N/A, and when I click COnfig button, the radio button is not selected on any RAID option, and all the checkbox unthicked.. Are my files gone? what happens if i set back the RAID5 button? will IT rebuilt and I'll loose all my data? my firmware is 1.00.01.3 Pls someone help. Their helpdesk are not replying my mail.

Hi fangface, welcome to the forum..... If you really have two drives degraded in your RAID 5 array, then you're lost, sorry. RAID 5 tolerates only one degraded drive, not two. You should have had replaced the first degraded drive a few weeks ago. But if you ask why you have two degraded drives, then check the page N2100Owner indicated. There was a issue with WD disks and the Thecus firmware. Sorry for the bad news..... Andreas

A very long read. I'll try to digest it.
So if that's the case, any way i can recover my files? Would manually unplugging the hdd and putting it in a windows pc, then using recovery software help? Some of the data are quite important. Might consider going to a data recovery company if all else fail, which i know will cost a bomb. There's about 300gb of data files stored.

Sorry that I might be desillutionating you but I think you'll not have any success reading the remaining data on the other hard disks on your PC.
Not only that the PC normally isn't able to read Linux partitions (there are special drivers available though) just more all the files are distributed all over the hard disks and two of them are missing.
Sure, give it a try, but I wonder if it is possible to restore any file.
I really hope that you find a solution though and whatever the result is, please keep us informed.....
Good luck,
Andreas

If you're very lucky and the 2 damaged drives are the same model you could try to exchange the electronics. Only do this when it's exactly the same manufaturer and model ... If on one drive the hardware is damaged (strange noises, motor doesnt start) and on the other it's the electronic (eg isn't recognised by the bios) you might be able to recover the one with the good hardware. jake

If both your drives are physically damaged, it would be difficult, but if they are only marked as "bad" and functioning otherwise (or at least one of them can be made available to read from), it is quite easy to recover the data for them. And I suppose they are not physically damaged So if the data is important to you, don't panic - it WILL cost you (unfortunately), but there is a great chance to recover all of the data (assuming you did not tamper the drives after RAID degradation).
