Hi Community,
bought a Thecus 5200 and put 5x500GB Samsung Harddisks in it.
Result after experimenting some weeks now: It's annoying...
Latest Joke: Folder Quota Used 4,294,098,940 MB/ 1,536,000 MB (279,564%) where 1GB is in use in reality!
Not to mention, how the system behaved after upgrading Raid5 with 4 disks to Raid5 with 5 disks. I had the same space available afterwards, the new space had been assigned to... YEEEESS! ... the non working snapshot feature ;-)) I had to restart from the beginning by copying all data from the box and creating the raid from scrap ...
... the actual firmware of this device really is crap ;-))
Have fun!
Marcus

I had the same problem - solved it by setting the quota to "0" on all drives, then rebooting and doing a Filesystem Check.
It fixed the quotas, however still wouldn't let me write to the drives with a "0" quota (bug, quota not disabled properly).
When I re-set the quota back above my used space, it worked OK again.
I agree that the firmware isn't quite finished yet, but it IS getting better with each new release.

Hi and thanks for your comments.
Thats exactly what I already did an now repeated for 2 times. Firmware is the actual 1.00.07, which should be caled 0.00.07 Alpha 3, this stuff has not reach beta status...
So the only two option I have right now to save a Terrabyte of Data back to normal disks, data won't get more secure if I copy it another 20 times to normal disk.
... or get rid of this thing, it costed me to much time and I am slowly getting insane with it...
...maybe one last try ;-P
Regards,
Marcus

Hi Marcus, that there is a problem with the quota management is known (this is at least what I do believe) but when testing this feature, I've never experienced that kind of troubles. You could find my experiences if you search the forum for the term "quota". Up to now I haven't seen any response from Thecus regarding this strange issues here. But almost as always I ask again: did you take the time to write an e-mail to Thecus support and ask them what's going wrong and how to fix it? This forum is great for sharing experiences and to give some rest for the poor souls among us when experiencing relief but we shouldn't try to take-over the support department of Thecus, not for that money.... ;D I really hope that they will answer you and find a solution for this weird problem, and if so, please keep us informed. I'm very interested what causes this behaviour. And Thecus: again I would like to know how to notice the promised increase of support! Andreas

Hi Andreas, sure i told the thecus support about that issue. They said, it's a known issue but what they could offer as solution did not do anything. - Reboot (Yes, wow, I know that myself ;-)!) - Set folder quota to "0" gets me rid of the strange line saying I put 3 times the data that the disks can hold on them, but it won't allow to copy any more data nevertheless. And I don't expect real support here, it is more sharing experiences between fellow sufferes . And hopefully motivate thecus to get from alpha to beta stadium with their software, because these bugs are not very good advertimsents for them... Hopefully I copied all data back to different backup medias by tomorrow and I will start anew then... Regards, Marcus
