Hi; I have still another old IOmega network hard drive. Normally I use this disk as memory for disasters recovery's. The problem is, that the disk has not ftp option, only smb funktion (nsync are only able to connect with ftp) My idea was to copy (with tar command) the Data from the N5200 to the network drive. If I running the mount -t smbfs or mount -t cifs I'm receive the error message that smbfs and cifs are not supported. What is wrong? Any hints are welcome. Many Thanks, Holger

Hi Holger, It is not clear for me what you're copying from where to where.... So you want to copy data from the N5200 to the IOmega drive? Ok, then you want to mount a share on the IOmega drive on the N5200 and the N5200 tells you that smbfs and cifs are not available? As I'm not having access to my N5200 at the moment, it's just a guess, but it seems that the Thecus software hasn't included the modules for mounting smb/cifs partitions. I think it should be possible to add this manually but most probably I'll not be able to check this for the next 2 weeks, sorry. Andreas

Proper format of the mount command over smb:
mount -w -t smbfs -o username=admin,password=XXXXXX,rw //192.168.1.100/usbcopy / mnt/storage/
Where /mnt/storage is your mounting point - just make sure there's a directory there.
Also, make sure smb is in your kernel - it probably is so try the command first...

Hi foo, in this case it is not the problem that we don't know how to use the mount command but thanks for the hint anyway.... I've checked my N5200 and as I already thought the SMB/CIFS mount support is not available. Andreas

Hi; an solution can be the command smbmount (smbmount //ip/share). There works fine and pretty fast. At the moment I see no methode to copy only the new/updated files. Not the finest methode, but is goes. Any other methode are welcome regards, Holger

Hi Holger, afaik "smbmount" and "mount -t smbfs" is basically the same.... Did you already try to bring smbmount to the N5200 or was it just an idea that somebody might do this for you.... ;D I've checked yesterday what dynamic libraries are used by the smbmount program ...... boah so many, I fear that it's not only copying the smbmount exe to the N5200......
