Hi; I'm using 5 x WesternDigital 3200KS hard disks. The parameter for Power-management is set to 30 Min's. The disks go never in the power saving mode. If I'm jumper the pin 3 and 4 (to enable PM2 power management on the disk side) the system will not see the hard disk after the boot Can it be which exists still a problem here? My firmware release is 1.00.07. Many thanks for all hints, Holger

Hello Holger, I'm not using WD disks and I'm not using power saving mode - so I can only give some hints..... There is a short and simple script called /img/bin/hdspin.sh which sets the auto spindown time for all the disks. This script just calls "hdparm -S $spindowntime $disk", that's it. This means if Linux supports setting the spindown time on your WD disk, then the Thecus device will do it too. So just search for an answer on the zillions of Linux forums as this is basically a generic Linux question - maybe you're more lucky getting an answer. BTW: if you want to see the actual status of your hard disk regarding spindown, issue the following command on your N5200: hdparm -C /dev/sdaand it will give you one of sleeping, active/idle, standy or unknown. For more information see the hdparm manual on every linux system, but be careful with some of its exotic commands. Andreas

Hi Andreas, thanks you for the answer. Is a good tip with the hdparm -C /dev/sda command. I am surprised a little, which this function does not run as a standard regards, Holger

Hi Holger, now I got it, thanks.... Thecus is doing it basically right but they are not using the "hdparm -C" command to get they current disk status, so I'd suggest to add it. Maybe I should add it to my INFO module.... But you need to find out if auto-spindown is supported with your harddisk. From what I've read this is a can have feature and although most harddisk have it it's not available on all of them or sometimes the implementation is screwed up..... Andreas
