I'm finding it difficult to make a decision about what set top box uPnP DLNA media players I should consider purchasing to take advantage of the new Mediabolic server capabilities in my N5200. Heck, I'm even finding it difficult to find out what devices are out there that will support the Mediabolic server.
My only goals are to get my media to my multiple TV's directly from the N5200 via the network without having to purchase/build a new computer and without having to run anything on my current home desktop or notebook systems.
Which one(s) are you using / have you used? Are you happy with them?
Which ones are/were you considering purchasing? What research have you done/found useful? If you've made a decision, what swayed you one way or the other?
THANKS!!!!

This is something I've just barely started researching. Like you, I haven't got very far.

I have an old Oritron NPD-3117 Network Connected DVD Player that is meant to connect to Digital 5's server software. It wouldn't connect to the N5200.
I heard that the Oritron was the same hardware inside as the GoVideo D2730 and the Gateway Connected DVD Player. Since GoVideo had released a v3 of their firmware, and others had successfully flashed their Oritrons and Gateways to that v3 firmware, I did it this weekend.
Fortunately all went well with the firmware flash. HOWEVER I still can't play anything from the N5200. It sees the N5200, allows me to navigate folders, but when I try to play video or photos, the Oritron/GoVideo device just freezes and I have to either wait an unspecified amount of time, or power cycle it. I haven't been able to get mp3's to even show up in the folder tree yet.
Has anyone else tried one of these dinosaurs and gotten it to work with Mediabolic's server via a Thecus device (or otherwise?)?
I also briefly attempted to see if the Oritron/GoVideo unit would connect to Twonkyvision running on an old laptop, but Twonky gave me licensing issues and I couldn't get the trial to start. (odd, I thought that was free software, guess I was mistaken!)
So, now I've all but hosed my Oritron -- it was a door-stop anyways, just collecting dust... for at least 2+ years now -- and now you can only use it with a universal remote as it is expecting hte GoVideo remote IR codes, not its own any more!
Still hoping anyone has and can post their own experience with units like the DLink DSM-520, etc...
Thanks!

I've got a dlink dsm-320rd media player which is DLNA compliant (and a bit buggy) and works well with the Twonkyvision server.
I ve never tried it with the Mediabolic server because it isn't supplied with the n2100 yet.
[edit] The dsm-320 works with the Mediabolic server : "http://www.thecus.com/download/other/N2100MediaServer_Connection.pdf"

I'm using a Zensonic Z500 Media Player together with Twonkyvision and have purchased recently a N5200 because they added in the new FW Mediabolic - I should receive it in the next days and will post then my experiences with interworking of the devices. Here are the links to the player for information: www.z500series.com br Peter

Yeah, I also have the XBMC solution, but it is not connect to the Mediabolic service, I connect over an SMB share. Looking at the XBMC FAQ it seems XBMC does not support Mediabolic and it's unlikely it ever will. Just thought that clarification should be made.

I use a Pixelmagic MB200. That works with SMB or NFS. NOT with uPnP since Pixelmagic is not interested to implement that it seems.
You need NFS for higher bandwidth files with this Mediabox for example for High Definition TV MPEG-2 captures.

As I have written some time ago I own a Zensonic (has renamed now to Ziova) Z500 - I was trying to interwork it with the Mediabolic Server, but I had no luck. SMB with public folders however worked fine.
Thanks to omega I have now installed Twonkymedia on the N5200, disabled Mediabolic and it works fine with the Z500 and also with a NOXON 2 audio.
I'm a happy guy now with this setup ;D

I got the DLink MediaLounge DSM-520 and so far I love it. I've been using it with the Mediabolic server so far, but intend on trying out the TwonkyMedia server soon. (do I need to pay to do that? unclear as of now!)
Wish the DSM-520 had a few other features but perhaps DLink will add those via firmware. It's a nice device overall but could use a few UI and usability enhancements -- the most sorely lacking being a single button you could press to bring you back to whatever is currently playing if you've gone into any of the menus or started browsing the folder structure while something is already playing or paused (i.e. music or video etc.).

I've put a Netgear EVA8000 on order. Looks to be the go with DLNA support, HDMI 1.3 (ie 1080p), ability to record/playback TV on a remote PC with Tuner, etc etc etc. We shall see (how long it takes to come into stock...).
