Hello.
This might be a silly question.
I've read you can remotely access the N4100+ via the web if you have the DNLA or some sortof static IP thing running, like no-ip.com.
Does this allow you to find a BT torrent or files on a website you want, and connect to your N4100+ from a PC, say for example, in an Internet cafe and get your N4100+ at home to download the files/torrent so they will be automatically downloading, and depending on time, would be already downloaded by the time you got home etc.?
Also, what power useage does the N4100+ use? I've read 80watts, which seems very high, it also seems to support HD spin down depending on the HD, what is the power usage then if all the hard drives were spun down?
Cheers for your time.

The answer to the 1st question is YES: it's quite easy to set up though you might feel the remote connection from your Internet cafe connection to your N4100+ might be "slow-ish". Regarding power consumption, there has been a post here: forums.hexus.net/thecus-care-hexus/123844-powerconsumption-n4100.htmland I also did some tests which are not "pro-like" tests: i) N4100+ at shutdown state: about 16W ii) N4100+ peak during start-up phase: about 120W but over a very short period ie. just a couple of seconds or so iii) N4100+ steady state: 71W iv) N4100+ HDDs spun down: not tested but figures welcome! Our N4100+ is 240Vac powered and has 4 * 500GB HDDs, Gb Ethernet connections and no WiFi. So figures do not look that good w.r.t. power consumption but still better than a dedicated PC in active mode. However, the point i) does not definitively meet any Customer's expectation. That's far higher than any decent PC -ours are only 2W-, which makes N4100+ even worst if we consider the duration of "shutdwon" periods. Having said that, I am not sure this will negatively balance the other benefits of the N4100+, at least for us. Last but not least don't forget in your calculations that you'll also have to include for the modem/router and likely switch you need to have a connection to Internet for your N4100+: you may have other surprises. So conclusion is that you shoud rather buy extension leads with switches! Patrice

Those power figures look extremely high, I tested mine when I got it and though I can't remember the exact numbers it was something like 80W active @ steady state and 10W with all discs spun down. I guess it also will depend on the power consumption of the discs you choose. Consumption in off was about 6W I think.
I have 4x500GB Western Digital WD5000AAKS drive. From a pure power perspective, the new Hitachi Desktars are very power friendly, I replaced two failing 320GB Maxtors in my home PC and the power consumption went down by nearly 20W!!

Adam,
I think we've got the same figure for the active "steady" state. That's not a good figure.
My figure for the startup is valid only for a few seconds, but interesting when looking for the UPS.
But for the shutdown it would be good to see your figure: I have something equivalent to what mentionned in other threads.
