Cannot get Folders to view over my local LAN

Hi all,

I have a Netger Readynas NV+ and now a Thecus N4100+. I upgradd my firmware on the N4100+ to 2.0.05 (newest) and tried putting one test drive in the top slot . Set it up for JBOD and initialized it, showing 468mb free. I renamed the box to NAS as well, and set static ip and enabled UPNP.

However, I canot get to any folders--Video, music, pictures are built in folders are they not? I made a "test1" folder, but cannot access it.

I can see NAS pop up as a upnp device in windows XP, but it has no shares and I cannot copy my 400mb of files to it

So I want to:
1)Have NAS show folders in network neighborhood
and
be able to copy and read AVI and MPG files to my network-streamer boxes through SMB access.

What am I missing--this box only seems to have web access or FTP access--what about SMB?

MUST I create a user? Can't I just have the box "wide open" with no security to share all files to everyone?

I have a similar problem.

Why can I not see the N4100pro on my normal windows XP network??
Where in the GUI do I enter the NETWORK USER GROUP Name??



I have changed the NAS IP to match my network but for the life of me I cannot see where to enter the user group name.

I feel that the labels in the GUI are miss leading and really need to be looked at in a future firmware.

Also why name a Lan port a Wan port?

I suggest you open the famous RTFM manual, chapter 4, §ADS Configuration.
