I am running out of space on my 4100+. I have 4 500GB drives in a RAID5 configuration.
If I understand my situation there is not much I can do without transferring all of my data off, purchasing new drives and re-copying.
I am looking at purchasing a drobo to avoid this future problem.
I am considering attaching the drobo to the USB port on the Thecus. Is there a reason this would not work? How would I mount the drobo on my computers. Does it auto mount when the Thecus volume does?
If I wanted to sell my Thecus what do you think it a fair asking price including the drives (all working) around 1 year old?
Thanks

Don't transfer your data, just buy new bigger HDD and intall them one at a time.
The N4100pro supports RAID volume expansion.
This means that you can upgrade the HDD and the n4100 will rebuild your RAID array to the new larger HDD.
Seeing as your running RAID5 you will need to replace all HDD.
BUT ONLY ONE AT A TIME. The NAS needs to rebuild the array for each HDD. So only change one at a time.
The manual has this detailed.

Keep in mind, that the N4100+ has not all the functions of the N4100pro - the N4100+ does not support raid expansion !!!
Raid expansion is supported from N4100pro, N5200 (all modells) and of course N7700 and N8800.
