Hi,
Just picked up a N299 and want to be able to connect to it via the net. The manual describes needing to setup my router's virtual server setting, but I can't seem to locate this area of my Netgear DG834GV modem/router.
Is this a simply process to set up on most routers?

most routers are web configurable.. in a linksys router you can do the following On a computer that is connected directly to the router via cable or wireless 1) http://192.168.1.1 2) enter username/pw 3) go port forwarding options and forward the port to your http on your NAS - IF u are unsure of the port ..its 80 by default but i am unable to get it working using port 80 hence i change it to another port .. e.g 5217(changing of the port is done by the web console page of your NAS 4) type this into your explorer(i.e,firefox) - http://<your ip address>:<your port number > replace <your ip address>:<your port number > with your ip and port if your external ip changes too often you can subscribe to services such as www.dyndns.com for a dynamic dns 5) you NAS can now be accessed via the internet Cheers Eugene

Thanks for the reply Eugene. I'll explore these options. The N299 manual mentions changing settings for the DDNS (which I think I need to do), but I can't find this area when I log into the device!? I think its a bit of a case of experimenting with settings, etc until I eventually get it working. I also want to make sure the connection is secure as well. Anyway thanks for your advice. Mike
