First of all, let me say my N2100 is great. It is configured as RAID1 with 2 x Seagate 400G drives and it works well for my back up needs. It sits on my network and with the mapped drive it looks just like another in my XP explorer. I just drag and drop and most times write speed is OK. I am using 2.1.00 firmware and have read that 2.1.03 will increase write speeds, HOWEVER, only after rebuilding the RAID.
My frustration at the moment is that I have a heap of folders to put to the N2100 that contains numerous web pages, so the file count is pretty high. I have just tried to put across one folder of about 1Meg in size and that took about 3 minutes. My first attempt to put across the whole group of folders was met with about a 300 minute transfer. When moving the same folder across the network (1gb) to another computer, all was well so no probs with the network. I then took a single JPG file of 1.4Mb and sent it to the same N2100 destination and it took about 2 seconds and then a group of 4 with same file size and went across in about 10seconds so I guess that shows the box is OK.
Can someone explain why the folder with many small files should take so long to write yet the same folder can transfer out in about 2 seconds..??
Leaving well enough alone, if I do the firmware upgrade and have to rebuild RAID1 is it going to screw up my data. Backing up 200Gb would not be a lot of fun. Perhaps there is no gain in this. Any idea on the speed to be gained..??
Many thanks for any info.
Barry
