After configuring my unit with RAID 5, and configuring my shared folders, i was able to access and browse my device fine over the network.
If i start coping data to the unit, to any of the shared folders, after about a minute or so the copy process will fail, with a windows error message stating the the destination device is no longer available, and the copy process has failed.
If i try and ping the unit from the command console, i get ping timeouts, and if i check the lcd display it looks like nothing is wrong and the device is working correctly.
If i shutdown the unit via the power button on the front and confirm with the enter key, wait for the unit to shutdown and then power the unit back on, it rebuilds the raid array and takes a few hours and then functions fine, until i try copy more data to it, where it repeats the same problems.
Now i have run Seagate's Seatools on the three 500gb drives and confirmed that there is nothing wrong with the drives, and i have also tested shutting down the unit via the power button on the front whilst the unit is functioning properly and then powering it back on, and it powers on very fast without rebuilding the RAID array.
So it is my conclusion that this is some kinda of firmware related issue, which i am waiting to hear back from thecus in regards to.

Unit just died again, but the lcd panel said no response and just left its alarm going, after turning off at the power point and turning back on, the unit says re-syncing please wait, i can ping the unit but cant browse to the admin page nor any smb shares, so now i wait for it to sync drives so i can try again.

Hi all, Just had my N3200 for 3 days cant get it to stay alive for more than a couple of hours, ticket submitted for a RMA see details logged to thecus support below. Has anyone managed to copy over large amounts of data to this device ? if so how much ? also how longhas your nas stayed up without crashing/rebuilding array ? Thanks. Ticket submitted to thecus(i suspect they are very busy). Hi There, I have had thecus N3200 for about 4 days now, and the longest it has stayed up is about 4 hours, when ever I copy data over to it from my old NAS a Terastion which has never crashed, or had to rebuild the array in 4 years the same thing happens. I attch to my old nas by UNC and the N3200 start the copy, come back and check it later after about 40 GB of data it drops the wanlink reboots and starts to rebuild the RAID 5 array everytime, then when I switch the unit back on the LCD display says "uP Ver:010 Booting... " and the power led flashes. The problem is well documented here in the support forum: thecususergroup.proboards106.com/index.cgi?board=n3200installations&action=display&thread=1195006777This is unacceptable and I would like to send the unit back, please issue a RMA. The unit was purchased from www.Ultimatestorage.comDetails below: 3 x WD500ABYS drives N3200 S/N 712505 running latest firmware off the CD Ver v 1.0.00.1 I have been in IT for about 15 years and understand this is a very new device so you can make allowances, but it does not stay up long enough to be of any use, is there a quick fix firmware update ? I looked and cant see anything on thecus website and the web, if not please RMA then. Thanks Jason. OK update, took out drives and replaced with a single WD 74GB Raptor as this is on supported list and setup as JBOD no RAID. same thing happen got to 41.2GB copied loses network connectivity, shutdown system on front pannel then everything works OK again ?, of course if this was in a RAID 5 array it would have to rebuild everytime. Final Update. Theus support got back to me in under 24 hrs all they said was the system is unstable send back and get a RMA, so I did, one thing first though I forgot to put my IP address of my router in DNS, I then tried copying over again and it copied over 80 gb but when I tried again for another 80 GB dropped out and started rebuilding the array. sent back to ultimatestorage who are great by the way no problems always answer your e-mails telephone calls in same day normally under 1 hour, they said they have had a faulty batch and cant get a replacement until the new year. Well I am glad I went for a refund, as I got the Synology CS407 and I am well happy copied over 300 GB without a problem, loads of features and performance goods as well, yes more expensive but it works to me it is reliable which is the whole point, sorry thecus nice idea, but the product is not ready yet only firmware ver .1, wait until they have released a few more firmware patch's then this product will be worth buying, otherwise by the Synology huge fan base, great support and great forums as well tried and tested. thanks Jason.

I have the same problem on my N3200 with the original firmware.
I use 3 Seagate 500Go 7200.10 ST3500630AS Firmware: 3.AAK.
I've tried Raid 5 and Raid 0 (get tired of waiting for them to re sync in Raid 5). After a certain (varying) amount of data copied, the unit crash with "System No Response" and there's no way to switch it off except cutting the power. I don't feel like send back the unit (I bought it from another country).
Does anyone have a solution or a setting that works ?

This does not sound good.
I to, have this dreadful issue with my new N3200 I installed this week. Using TimeMachine on Mac OS X 10.5.1 "Leopard" killed the unit after about 2GB copied. Lost connectivity, N3200 beeped continuously, LCD displayed "System Restarting" but it wasn't. After powering off the unit, it started, then the LCD display "(R)sync,Pls Wait ESC to con'u". If I pressed ESC, Raid started to rebuild. Did this 3 times in one day. Not a good introduction to Thecus products if you ask me.
N3200V1.0 741228 up ver:012 RAID 5 with 3 new Western Digital 500Gb WD5000AAKS
I'm logging a support call now...

Hi,
I just want to say that I dont have problems with this unit. I got 3 Samsung 500gb drives and allready copied around 400gb. Maybe this helps you in drive choosing.
Benny.

The unit (and drives) actually work OK when copying data with the Finder or a shell script using rsyn. It all goes bad if I use TimeMachine.app. Also, I have noticed, that contrary to the Thecus manual, connecting to the N3200 via AFP using "Connect to Server" in Finder, does not mount the share on the desktop.
