With Moderate use I am seeing temps for the system around the LOW 40's and the HD's around 45.
I have two WD 400 gig drives in the box.
After letting the system and go into sleep mode...the temps are 34 & 33.
The fan RPM's are listed at 8500'ish
ALSO I have downloaded the FANRPM Module, installed it and have a quick question...
If I select the HIGH threshold mode will that just enable protection on my N2100 if the temps go above 52?
Put another way, will the fans operate normally until the temp goes above 52? Or will the fans run on HIGH all the time if I enable that?
I guess I am just worried about running the fan too high constantly if it isn't needed...
thanks in advance,
Leeland

The temperatures you report are identical to mine. Thecus is not optimal in relation to housing but with a functioning spin down feature of the discs this should be no issue.
If you set the fanctrl (I assume you meant this module and not fanrmp) module to high, the fan will run at full speed at all times and not be temperature driven any more.
Don't worry about the fan running high at all times, it will not damage anything. If the noise does not bother you from the temperature point of view it is the best solution. For this setting you can also set this within the Thecus setup pages without the module.
The bigger problem is if you enable iTunes server where the discs never go into sleep mode as most drives are not conceived for 24x7 usage, especially not at higher temperatures.
Cheers!

I'm currently getting System 49 HDD 43 I built a timber housing that i put the thecus in that has an 8cm fan sitting directly above the open thecus case blowing air down onto it. Prior to that the temperatures were hovering around 58 to 60 degrees all the time. I know for a fact that my Segate ST3200822AS HDD's run HOT as i ran them in my PC for a year and had to install a HDD cooler on them. The newer segates run a lot cooler because i put new ones into my pc when i got the n2100.

The maximum operating temperature for most hard-drives is at around 55 Deg Cel (only very few hard-drives allow temperatures up to 60). You may find the exact values on the manufacturers websites. For whatever reason Thecus decided to only warn the user if the temperature does go above 65 Deg Cel, which is way to high for any hard-drive I know of!
Threshold mode 'high' of module FANRPM can indeed be used as a protection. Independent of any fan speed setting done with module FANCTRL mode 'high' of FANRPM will put the fans to 100% if the temperature goes above 52 Deg Cel. This will allow you to tweak the settings with FANCTRL without having to fear a meltdown.
I personally use threshold mode 'low' as I modded my two Thecus boxes to use a 60mm fan running at 2200 rpm max. When the hard-drives are not used the temperature drops to 33-35 degrees. With threshold 'low' the fan rpm will drop to 1700 rpm making the box very, very quiet. Mode 'low' means that as long as the temperature is below 40 the fan speed will be set to medium.

Well that explains it I guess...thanks for the input guys.
For the built in fan control in the thecus I have it set to NORMAL and the RPM's on the fan around in the 8,000's.
In the FANRPM Module I downloaded I have it set to LOW. I do not have iTUNE's server installed...so I don't have to worry about the discs being on all the time...
I installed the module more so for the temp chart that displays the temps over 24 hours...
Thanks again,
