Hi, Sorry if this should go into the "Module Wishlist" thread... It was kind of 50/50 (But please feel free to move it). My module writing skills are zero. But what I thought could be a great module (For me at least ) would be a module that allows the n5200 to send a magic packet to a local mac address on it's network. As we can https into the 5200 from the internet, if you want to wake up a pc at home when you're away you could just ask the thecus to do it If you wanted to be flash you could add a table for known devices on your LAN so that you could just select them (Maybe with a tick box) and press "Wake up"... Now I know that linux kinda supports this functionality anyway...but if any of you really clever people fancied doing this then that would be brill Thanks in advance, QR

Firmware 2.00.01 has Wake-on-LAN under the System menu, although I haven't tried it yet.

Thanks for the info Jmah, I'm pretty sure that's just allowing WOL to wake up the Thecus from another device.... I really want the other way around. Any thoughts anyone?

The WOL support accessible from the web interface simply sets a flag in the config database that tells the Thecus to put the LAN side ethernet interface into wol_suspend mode, and wait for a magic packet. This obviously won't help you much. However, the installed software includes ether-wake (actually just additional BusyBox functionality, but it makes no difference), which will send WOL packets to other machines:-
root@127.0.0.1:~# ether-wake BusyBox v1.1.0 (2006.03.02-06:32+0000) multi-call binary
Usage: ether-wake [-b] [-i iface] [-p aa:bb:cc:dd[:ee:ff]] MAC
Send a magic packet to wake up sleeping machines. MAC must be a station address (00:11:22:33:44:55) or a hostname with a known 'ethers' entry.
Options: -b Send wake-up packet to the broadcast address -i iface Use interface ifname instead of the default "eth0" -p pass Append the four or six byte password PW to the packet
So, if you have ssh access to your Thecus, then doing what you want is easy. If you wanted to do it from the web interface a little more hacking would be required, but it would be perfectly possible to create a web page that would let you fire off a magic packet.

Ahhh Sauron!!! Now ya talkin' ;D It would be fantastic if a webpage version that could be installed as a module were available.... (I don't usually muck around with SSH access as I know I'll only break something!) I don't suppose anyone would be willing to help out with this small one would they?!? If not, I guess I'll just have to enable SSH and be careful! Thanks for the info anyway! QR

Sorry for misunderstanding, qicric. I guess most of the module creators wouldn't have an issue using SSH, so good luck.

This is only on the Pro, right? Because I can't find that (sadly).

No, RouStore variant includes this function too. Look at the Status-Menu.

ok, my plain vanilla 5200 does not have it either in the system or status menu. I wish it had

No worries Jmah! (It's hard with forums to make sure you make yourself clear... So it was probably my fault!) gideon007 - Jmah is correct about the version of firmware being needed for that option to appear... I notice you say "My vanilla 5200" which tells me it might be on quite an old firmware version (So you may need to update you firmware for that option to appear) Really hope someone can cobble together a module for this.. Would be a really handy feature for people (like me) who leave there Thecus on all the time but want the option to startup other machines on the lan Thanks chaps! QR

I don't have the WOL option in my non Pro N5200 and I'm on FW 2.00.01 - so may be it's a pro N5200 feature only. br Peter

qicric: I can read, the second post here says: When I wrote plain vanilla Thecus 5200 I thought it was obvious that I have neither a Roustor nor a Pro Thecus 5200 variant.

Appologies gideon007 - I misinterpreted "Plain and vanilla" as unaltered.... Must be me just being plain crazy (Hardly worth a smite though) peterfu....My N5200BR has the option just fine

sppoky indeed Maybe Omega will take a look at the dependency of the WOL in the firmware. Not that I even hope that it could be made to work for my plain vanilla N5200 (it was my very first question on this forum) but I'd at least like to know why some have it and others not. BUT does it work for you who have it on their menu?
