Nice try from Thecus , this firmware removes the ISCI functionality. So if you use ISCI don't install this firmware. However I managed to go back to 2.00.00.11 by using the good old USB reset method.

... iSCSI is a feature of the N5200PRO. With 2.00.02.2 (which is still beta !!!) Thecus just made the FW comply with their product spec - thus iSCSI items will show up on a PRO only. With the new release the number of possible iSCSI partitions seem to be 5 (five) now. ranger, you are running a N5200, don't you ?

Yes , I'm using the N5200. However with the N5200 2.00.00.11 beta , ISCI functionality was added. And I don't see any reason , except commercial ones , why the N5200 couldn't have this nice feature. Better my N5200 runs ISCI now for weeks without any problems. So , releasing a firmware just to comply with the product specs is a bit strange. In Holland the pro is 200 Euro($ 275) more expensive than the standard 5200 and that's a lot of money for just a faster cpu and more memory. Bringing ISCI only for the PRO would be another selling argument. I also believe that opening the beta section of the downloads directory is a way for Thecus to test the beta firmware's among real users. They know this forum exists and they know that people will try the beta firmwares and post there experiences. And putting the 2.00.00.11 beta with ISCI functionality in there was a mistake and they removed it very quickly. fajo , how do you know about these 5 partitions?

Hi ranger,
I checked the web scripts and the system config and found that the PRO and the nonPRO now use different configs. For the nonPRO the iSCSI feature got disabled and for the PRO the partition limit has increased from 1 to 5. The web scripts have been modified as well to support multiple iSCSI partitions.
For the iSCSI feature - I would probably do it the same way. I would bite my a.. if I only bought a PRO for the iSCSI feature and weeks later the feature gets available for the nonPRO as well. There may of course be other reasons why Thecus does not release iSCSI for the nonPRO - who knows. I do not want to start a general discussion on this here.
Cheers, Falk

I don't use iSCSI just SMB. I am running 2.00.00 on a N5200, so what fixes does 2.00.02.2 do any one know?

After upgrade the firmware from 1.00.12.5 to 2.00.02.2, the other known difference is support front USB UTF-8 iocharset. It's a more compatibility for our engineers when using usbcopy function.

Heard from Thecus support that they are working very hard on firmware release 2.x to offer as non-beta and they will also come up with release notes from of 1.00.08 to the new version.
P.s.:Typical a dutch thing: Complaining about 'missing' functionality that wasn't included in the first place. I'm a N2100 owner for some time now, even as working with N5200's and in my opinion Thecus is still adding functionality (after product launch) and improvements to their products very well. Yes, some improvements have to be made, but hence they do.

ranger: Hi Ranger, can you please describe "the good old USB reset"? I could not find anything about it. How does it work? Can it always be used to downgrade? Thanks a lot!

important thing for me in this release is ability to block anonymous connections by FTP! it means, i don't need PUREFTPD mod anymore. FTP folder access is the only remaining feature i need from N5200

I updated to 2.00.02.2 a few days ago, and suddenly yesterday on some of the computers (all Macs, OS 10.4.x, access through afp) folders started disappearing (most folders are there, just some are not showing up,) and permissions for stuff like creating folders were randomly denied. I tried the procedure described here: thecususergroup.proboards106.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=n5200installations&thread=1186483364&page=1, but it didn't really help. After beating my head for a while, I discovered that if I go to Network, then Mygroup, then sign on to the server which appears there, some folders are missing. But, if I go to Network, then My Network, then sign on to the same server which appears there, everything works fine, at least for the last hour or so. What 's happening here? P.S. And yes, folder access would be great.

may be i wrote a little not correct. I mean visibility control of folders through FTP. Access right control, actually, already there long time.
