Hi guys,
My thecus is only two weeks old, so is 2x500Gb from WD.
So I boot up my box, but this time unusually long beep, that freaked me out, beep eventually finished. Opened the UI, clicked Storage->RAID, says "status - degraded".
From my findings, "degraded RAID1" means two dics that supposed to have identical data are out of sync.
Then clicked Storage->RAID-configuration ticked one of the disks that was unticked, clicked Create [RAID]. Now it says status-Recovering.
Hope I won't lose my data.
Can anybody explain the situation better than I did, so that it could help other dudes who may have the same problem.
Also is it common, this type of incidents.
Cheers

If the N2100 did not power off properly (i once had to unplug the power cord because i could not shut it off using the power button), occasionally when it comes back up, it might only see one drive. If you reboot it using the reboot option in the web admin page, when it comes back up again, you should see both drives.

I have had the same problems with my two WD5000YS harddisks in RAID-1. Sometimes when I did a shutdown by the button or GUI, the shutdown process hung (blinking led) and I had to pull out the power supply. Afterwards I missed all my data, shares, etc. and saw my RAID-1 was degraded. After rebuilding (and rebooting) I had my data back, but this really scared me for about 3 times now. I already looked for new firmware for my disks, but found nothing. So I sent an e-mail to Thecus support a few days ago and they found a new firmware for de disks with the problem mentioned. I will try that soon, first I have to make backups from some gb's WD Info: Serial ATA Drives There is a firmware update for WD1600YS, WD2500YS, D4000YS, and WD5000YS hard drives that resolve a RAID set dropout issue. I can tell the Western Digital firmware update went fine, no data lost, no degraded raid, etc. Procedure I followed: 1-Made a backup (for sure ) 2-Powered down Thecus 3-Removed disk1 from hdd case 4-Connected hdd to a pc with SATA-controller 5-Booted from USB memory key 6-Ran 'WD5000YS.exe' 7-After update ready shutdown pc 8-Put harddisk back in same slot as before Repeated procedure for disk 2. Maybe it's easy for you, but maybe you also like to see it's working (with me). Results: & I hope my NAS box will not get any degraded raid status anymore, but in the N5200-section I also read the need of a delay for shutdown in the Thecus firmware. If that's needed, I hope it will come in the next firmware version, because RAID-stability is very important (that's where RAID is for, isn't it!? )

I had the same problem with same WD drives - Thecus reporting every 2 to 5 days that the RAID volume was degraded.
I upgraded the HD firmware using the instructions provided and I can now say there have been no 'degraded' messages for the past 15 days. It's increasingly looking like the problem is fixed!

Make that 30 days. I really do think the firmware upgrade has fixed the problem.
