Perhaps I am missing something but I can't figure out how to get into the unit...
Is there a telnet port on this unit?

In a word, No. You need to install the SYSUSER module, then the SSHD module off of the Wiki onbeat.dk/thecus/index.php/N5200_Module_List and then you can SSH (like telnet, just secure) into the box. PuTTY is a nice simple free SSH client. Have fun!

Ok...2 very embarrassing questions:
It's probably staring me in the face but what account and password do I log in with from Putty?
I tried administrator, a couple accounts I created and SU but either I don't know the correct passwords or I am not thinking with the right accounts.
Second, I am more a AD and Windows Guy, in windows it is very easy to make a new share; right click on any folder, select share, set permissions and boom, a share..
I don't see a similar way to create shares in whatever linux the 5200 is running, how do you create shares on sub-folders?

sys & sys!!!
Not sure you can create shares on subfolders without 'breaking' the web interface view of things... but I'll leave that to a more senior poster than me...

But only if you have installed and enabled the SYSUSER module.... The user interface of the N5200 is not prepared to create shares in subfolders even though this shouldn't be a big deal. But IMHO this would be a nice to have feature, not more. Keep in mind that this is a storage server, not another all-jobs-doing PC..... Andreas

True, but being able to create new shares is definitely part of that purpose.
How would one make a folder shared by being telnetted into it, in other words what makes a Linux folder shareable.
I have looked in all my Oreilly books and none seem to mention this in any way I could think of referencing it.
Thanks guys!

Hi greybard, not "telnetting".... SSH is the right way.... Sure it is possible to create your "own" shares wherever you want by editing /etc/samba/smb.conf. BUT: then you're totally on your own and you really need to know what you're doing! So think twice if you really need it. If you need more information on that, get a good SAMBA book (O'reilly has one too) or (cheaper) read one of the excellent guides in the Internet. The Wikipedia article for SAMBA would be a good starting place.... Andreas

Yes, I meant SSH... As for being on my own...well can't think of a better way to learn this stuff. Heck maybe soon I will be uploading my own modules!
