I had an hour of hassle getting anything connected as an XP drive because I (naturally) chose the same ID on the thecus box as I use on my Windows boxes.
I'm not sure why or how the problem occurs, but if you find yourself stalled and can't connect no matter how many times you enter the correct username and password, try setting up a totally new user on the N2100 (one that you've never used on windows), and connect using that ID.

Strange - I had the same problem ... my guess is that XP is adding some domain stuff to the login that the Thecus is then rejecting - now if the Thecus's logging was anything like half decent we might be able to see what the Thecus is getting that it doesn't like

I've had the same problem with all my Windows 2000 Pro clients. It would make the product more friendly to use if this problem were properly understood and fixed. I was about to send my box back due to no response from Thecus support - and then I discovered this forum. Message to Thecus - Please sort this one out. It is unacceptable for users to have to remember a new login and password just to access your product!

So you mean you use the same user name on your Windows and N2100, and N2100 is rejecting it?

I find that I have to connect as admin just to get XP to even see that there are shared folders. I don't understand why "public" folders aren't in fact public. I don't have this problem with the Linksys NSLU2.

What do you see if you go to command line prompt and type?
C:>net use \\N2100_IP_ADDRESS

Hi,
you could also when mapping the drive click connect using a different username and password and use (without the quotes) THECUSBOXIP\username and put the password in the other box
should work
cheers
