Hi, I created a new version of my SSH patch for the Thecus N5200 with firmware 1.00.04. This patch now includes support for rsync and rsyncd. Especially if you would like to migrate data from one computer to the N5200, rsync is very convenient. I'm doing now my synchronization using the rsync daemon on the N5200 and I've transferred about 700GB in the last 4 days without any problems. The patch creates an initial rsyncd config file for all directories in /raid/data. You only might need to adjust the file permissions in the config file and/or for the files in /raid/data. I've sent this patch to jamis who already hosted a previous version and you can find the old and the new version here: www.mostlyharmless.org/thecus/ Please let me know if there are any problems and please share your experiences. Happy X-mas Andreas

Hi everybody..... A new version of my patch for the N5200 with FW 1.00.04 is available. There are 2 new features: 1) Add two user accounts: reboot and shutdown (passwords are 'reboot' and 'shutdown'). When logging in as one of these users, the appropriate action will be executed. A free and good SSH client for Windoze is PuTTY (http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/putty). The package includes a small command line program named plink with which you can login to the N5200 using SSH and which can be used in a batch script. For security reasons please change the standard passwords with the passwd command (e.g. passwd reboot). If you dont like that feature at all, just set very complicated passwords. 2) Due to the fact that the root filesystem is a ramdisk, everything in /root is lost after reboot. If the file /etc/authorized_keys exists, it will be copied to /root/.ssh/authorized_keys after each reboot. Just put your public SSH key into this file and you don't need to write your password for each login (when you use ssh-agent). I've sent this new patch to jamis who already hosts the previous versions and you can find all versions here: www.mostlyharmless.org/thecus/ Please give him some time to copy it to the web site. Hope you'll like it. Bye Andreas

Did you try to install Mysql on N5200? I wonder if N5200 is fast enough.

Hi,
here s a bug fix release 0.5 which replaces version 0.4.
I just noticed that in 0.4 is a stupid typo in the patch script preventing authorized_keys from being installed in /root/.ssh.
I was testing it before but somehow I overlooked hat error.... :-(
Please don't use version 0.4 and use 0.5 instead.
Should be available soon at the known web site.
Sorry and thanks,
Andreas

Did you try to install Mysql on N5200? I wonder if N5200 is fast enough. What do you mean by install MySQL.... what version? What part of that software? I think the N5200 should be fast enough: it has a Celeron M 600MHz processor and a 2.6.13 linux kernel, so..... But is it the right way to have a database on a file server?

Is it compatible with the new firmware (1.00.05)? And also contrary to what I wrote before (in the thread where I asked for the remote shutdown) this doesn't seem to work here. I *think* I only tested the reboot and that worked fine and then assumed the shutdown works as well. But the shutdown doesn't work here. I can log in and it says it will shutdown but never does My firmware is the 1.00.04.10.

No, it is not compatible with 1.00.05, although it is not hard to fix. Thanks to omega for including the source, it is not hard to make the necessary changes. The only change that is necessary is to change the version number so that the check will pass.

Hi, I've just finished the new versions of my packages. I've split my three packages into seven packages each of them now covering only one issue - so everything should be modular now. I've already thought about that version issue with 1.00.05 - I've changed the version to 1.00.99 - this should be working for the next releases, isn't it (knightowl can you try this version string)? I only need to test my patches for 1.00.04, then I will install 1.00.05 and then again testing. But not tonight - maybe tomorrow.... I'll keep you informed.... Andreas P.S. jamis: be prepared for my updated files....

omega, I just finish testing the 1.00.99 string. Works like a charm. Don't know why I didn't think about that in the first place.
