This is to answer Jatin's question on how the "usb-printer" queue name was determined. I know this response is late but better late than never right?
There is a printers.conf file in /opt/cups/etc/cups on the N2100. The content of the file:
# Printer configuration file for CUPS v1.1.23 # Written by cupsd on Tue Mar 7 20:14:41 2006 <DefaultPrinter usb-printer> Info Location DeviceURI usb:/dev/usb/lp0 State Idle Accepting Yes JobSheets none none QuotaPeriod 0 PageLimit 0 KLimit 0 </Printer>

Has anyone tried to rename the printer from "usb-printer" to something more descriptive by editing /opt/cups/etc/cups file? I am curious if I change the name, will it be maintained through reboots, etc. I am sure that it will be lost during a firmware upgrade, but that is understandable. Thoughts? Ian

I can't get my HP PSC 2170 all-in-one printer to print correctly... it prints one page with this:
%!PS-Adobe-3.0 %RBINumCopies: 1 %%Pages: (atend) %APL_DSC_Encoding: UTF8 %%Title: (M
and then a bunch of blank pages. Not sure if theres anything I can do other than ask that it be added to the compatable printers list. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Thanks. do you get this problem with every document you try printing? It looks to me like a postscript error but couldn't say for sure without knowing what the document is. You sometimes can get errors of that type from misinterpreted pdfs or eps vector graphic files. ie they open ok in your software but won't print. Some printers are rather fussy sometimes especially if they don't have an Adobe PostScript module in them or equivalent PostScript emmulation.

The previously mentioned, regardless of what I'm printing or what program I use.

My HP 1020 doesn't work fine. It seems to have properly installed the "usb-printer" drivers.
But when I try to print a test page after installation, it prompts "Incorrect port - The port to which the printer is connected is not supported."
I can see a print job in the print queue. I can go into the web menu, press "Remove All Documents" from the Status-Printer Menu to cancel the job. Seems working, right?
Any thoughts on that? Is it a firewall problem or a port setting problem in the printer properties?
Thanks Patrick

Sorry, my printer is Canon LBP2900 instead of HP 1020. They are in fact the same OEM machine with different brands and I always got confused!! My HP 1020 doesn't work fine. Samsung ML-2010 works like a charm, with both Windows XP and Mac OS X 10.4 on Thecus N2100 with FW 2.1.05! ;D
To configure the printer in Mac OS X you have to add a new printer as follows: - Open the System Configuration panel - go to Printing & Fax - click the "+" sign - choose Type: IP-Printer - Protocol: Internet Printing Protocol - IPP - Address: <IP Address of the Thecus box> - Wait list: printers/usb-printer - Name: <as you wish> - Location: <as you wish> - Print with: <select appropriate driver> - Click "Add"
