Hi there, yesterday i got my brand new N5200. I put in 5 300GB WD disks, waiting for 2,5 hours building the raid 5 array with two spare disks. Next i configured ADS support and added some folders with appropriate ACL's, no problems. After this i began to copy folders from my old fileserver to the N5200. After 30 minutes and nearly 100 MB i got the message that the network device is unreachable. I rebooted the box and tried again ... after the next 50 MB i lost the box once again Can any body help ? Regards, Volker

I had a little trouble myself, I couldn't even explain it. Don't wanna elaborate but I just destroyed the array and rebuilt it again. Who knows, maybe that will help.

Hi there, my dealer told me that they are serious problems with hard disks bigger than 250 GB. There is no hardware compatibility list from thecus for suitable hard disks OK, my dealer gave me a beta bios which came brand new from thecus (not for end consumers ). i will try it. He used 750 GB disks an with the new beta bios it worked. Greetings from Germany Volker

We have just emailed you the new firmware and other files. Please upgrade to the new firmware, prior to building the RAID, as this should resolve your issues going forward. Email was sent Friday afternoon. PeterG www.eaegis.com

I have a few different issues with my brand new 5200, I have (4) Seagate 300gbSATAII's -7200.9 in raid5 After setting up the drives and moving about 100gb data on there that I can see through "my network", I have used both WSFTP and HTTPs: to go in under an Admin account with full permissions in ACL to find NO files present. Thinking it an anomally, I tried login as several other users with the same problem. I even created a /public folder with public permissions to no avail. There are a couple of gb's in the /public folder that looks completely empty using webdisk or ftp. What gives? second issue: the front panel seems uselss. Just rotates the setup info. Nothing works except "USB Copy?" I was emailed a link to both an lcd patch and a bios upgrade, I have done both and rebuilt the array. i still have the same problems. Anyone have the same issue and fixed? It sure is pretty but so far it's useless. I'll give it 2 more days

Hey torch,
After I was able to get my 5 320GB drives in raid 5 format I created a public share and copied close to 200GB of data into it. I created a user account and ftp'd in with wsftp and was able to go into the public folder to see all my files. I downloaded a couple back to my computer with no problem. I also uploaded a couple to the folder with no problem and pulled the share up from "network places" and those files where there just fine. I assume your using the 1.00.01.3 firmware?
Since you mention ACL, are you in a server domain? If so maybe the problem is your unit isn't maintaining contact with the PDC. Which wouldn't at this time surprise me with all the firmware bugs.
Does the time on your unit stay if you power the unit off and turn the power switch off in the back? Thats a problem with my unit.
One thing I hope they put in the firmware soon is the ability to dim that lcd display. d**n it's bright in a dark room!. I don't need any other lights on with the unit running! lol.

That error comes from configuring the IP address on the WAN port with the DHCP client; the error happens when the DHCP lease expires and is renewed, even if the address specified by the lease does not change. This is not supposed to happen this way; note that a Linux machine running Samba with the same configuration will not have a problem if it's DHCP lease expires and is renewed with the same address while copying files. The work-around is to specify a static IP address for the WAN interface, then complain to Thecus to fix the problem with their DHCP client over-reacting when the lease is renewed (it seems to be disabling then re-enabling the WAN interface when this happens). I detailed this as one of many problems with the N5200 in my review: www.starnet.com/huntntech/article/storage_server_review_thecus_n5200/Harold

OK, I've had this unit now going on 2 weeks and I have found more problems. They are either errors in progamming the embed'd software or possibly my unit just doesnt work.
1. The front panel remains useless. I can't do anything with it.
2. The fifth drive bay filled with a working drive lights steady green. It shows nothing in the drive list and it doesnt matter if that drive is swapped out with another. It can't be accessed or seen.
3. The unit often loses it's ACL info for users. If there was any problem with the drives or the raid had to be rebuilt for any reason (and they have) all user access is screwed up. I jave to go in a remove all ACL lists and rebuild before users can read and write how they are supposed to.
4. The email notification does not work and there is no good info on this feature.
5. Http access does not work LAN or WAN side. This hasnt really mattered because the Https has worked.
6. There doesnt appear to be any logging from FTP clients (ie not through webdisk). Only web panel access and admin changes are logged. How do I know? there are 2 people on the drive using WSFtp and they are not logged.
More accurate logging would be a bonus, such as files uploaded/downloaded etc. I sure would like to know who might have uploaded a particular file.
So far the fifth drive AND the LCD are completely useless to me. I should have purchased an N4100 instead
I have the ony firmware upgarde they released so far
