Does anybody have a RAID5 Thecus 5200 Pro that writes & stops & writes & stops resulting in a slow transfer rate?
I mean when I transfer files to the thecus the tansfer starts ~5 sec /stops ~ 3 sec
thank you ..

The Thecus 5200 Pro uses a software RAID ( the OS is Linux).
When it is writing to a RAID5 disk set it will stop while it works out parity and then write all the data out. I see about 15 MB/s writes on mine with large data transfers on a GB network.
For reads there are no pauses (because it doesn't need to calculate parity) and I get about 30 MB/s

Funny, I get the opposite result. I am getting 30MB/s writing to the n5200pro and 15MB/s reading from it. I tested using a couple 2GB+ files and the results were quite consistant. I am running RAID 5 with WD 5x750GB drives on a gigabit network using a gigabit SMC 16 port switch.

zzmadd,
the breaks every 5 secs are caused by kjournald that uses a commit interval of 5 seconds. The break should last less than a second (some ms) but may be noticable.
