right taken the plunge and upgraded to 126.96.36.199 from 188.8.131.52 with few modules installed and before i rebooted the NAS i told ssh to reset password and gone through all the settings checking / em and no problems to report
This isn't from 2.1.05 (it's from 2.1.03) but i dont expect it's changed. Certainly the firmware update process hasn't changed at all.

You're not the first to suffer firmware update issues.
Usually it's just the apache config being wiped. If it's auto configuring your disks then you have access to the samba config and you can just create a share to the full filesystem and edit what you want.
