Hi, I am considering buying a Thecus N2100 to be used a Media storage device. I have a Macbook pro and am wondering if others with a Mac have used this device. If you have can you please contribute your experience's with regards to setup, stability and performance. Thanks.

As a basic storage device it works well with the IBM based G5 iMac.
However my router (belkin) doesn't like some of the communication between the mac and the web interface of the n2100 and blocks it so if you're planning to access it through a firewall with hacker protection you may encounter problems.
That's a MAC security issue though and not the fault of the n2100.

I use my N2100 as a general storage device (backups) and as a media storage device (mp3, avi. iso/img). Shares are mounted via nfs to a 1GHz G4 iBook to play movies using VLC. Works like a charm! To run backups I prefer mounting via afp as it is best for dealing with resource forks.
Performance has never been an issue. The N2100 will saturate an 100mbit ethernet connection easily.

Hi there, I'm using the N2100 since 6 month as external storage and iTunes-Server at home with my MacBook and a Windows-PC. The box has two 500 GB drives configured as JBOD, so no redundancy. Setup and stability are perfect, regarding the performance I haven't done any tests. The shares are mounted as SMB because former firmwares (< 2.1.03) had some problems with AFP. Haven't tried it with the newer firmware versions.

I'm using a 2100 with 1TB (2x500GB SATA) configured on RAID 1. It works great as I have two PCs and two MACs. I have a MacBook and a Mac Mini. I'm also running the iTunes Server. It works great on all iTunes instances. The only downside is that my AppleTV doesn't recognize the iTunes server as an iTunes device. Since the 2100 has all my media, I mapped my main PC's iTunes to just treat the 2100's media as a drive and just imported all of the media onto that instance of iTunes. I then point my AppleTV at that iTunes instance. Just to cut down on any latency introduced by hairpinning the media through my PC, I upgraded the connectivity between my PC and the 2100 to 1Gigabit Ethernet. This is overkill but just removed bandwidth from the potential bottlenecks. I stream video (even HD video) regularly and it works great!
