Nope, didn't do anything else but put the files in a tar.gz.
I'd be happy to get that feedback. I'm still running 2.1.00, haven't had time to upgrade yet...
I read somewhere that you (supposedly) can login before commencing the firmware upgrade, stay logged-in, do the upgrade, and when this finishes, execute the "passwd" command to change the password.
Most likely not, but I don't know.
You're welcome. Thanks for your feedback!!

Yes, i can confirm that if you can ssh into the N2100 before the firmware upgrade, stay logged-in, and when the upgrade finishes, you can do the "passwd" command to reset the root password.

The difference between before and after re-raid with the new firmware in gigabit ethernet:
Before re-raid: read - 14 Mbyte/s write - 11 Mbyte/s
After re-raid: read - 17 Mbyte/s write - 15 Mbyte/s
Note: The before re-raid transfer rates were taken on a gigabit ethernet network that has two gigabit switches between the test machine and the N2100. The after re-raid rates were taken when the test machine was connected directly to the N2100 using a cross-over patch cable.

Mikkel
I have now loaded the 2.1.01 firmware and your SSH module seems to be working fine - for info for anybody else I logged in to SSH leaving it logged in when I did the firmware upgrade then after upgrade but before reboot I changed the root password with passwd command. Then after boot I trashed the RAID to rebuild to get the SMB performance boost - this loses everything including all the loaded modules but reloaded SSH afterwards and it was fine with my personalised password. I haven't bothered with the ROOTPSW module again as with SSH access working fine I don't need it.

Dear, I#m new to N2100 and I updatet the firmware from v2.1.00 to 2.1.03. Before the update, I have installed the SSH module v1.0 from onbeat.dk/thecus/index.php/N2100_Module:_SSH (no other version of this module was accepted). After the update, I can login to SSH. After uninstalling of SSH, I can't install SSH modules. I read some resource wiht "press reset button ...", but nothing happens. Can anyone help ? Thanks in advanced. Regards, Andreas.

You'll need the SSH module version 3. It's the only one that will work with 2.1.03. What do you mean that no other version was accepted??? You'll have to stuff around with the .tgz file to get the .mod file out of it ready for loading. You'll also need the root password ROOTPSW module.

mshapf, following the whole threads since some months now I decided also to install teh ssh module on my thecus.
I recalled that there was the issue that Thecus had chenged the root pwd as it had become public. I have upgraded though to the latest firmeware now which, as I understand, has no root pwd released.
I installed the module and it prompts me for a username/pwd. None of the combinations I use for the web interface works. Which username/pwd combination can I use? Is there any way I can reset the root pwd or not?
Any help greatly appreciated. My compliments for the great work you have done on the WIKI, it is a joy for the community.

If you've installed version 3 then there is a change password function built in. In the modules page just click on the module name (SSH) and then clck on the "Initialize Root Passwd" button. The password will now be set to "irresistible"

Ok, call me a noob but here's my question:
What is the big advantage of changing the root password? Are there any disadvantages of doing that?

Ok, call me a noob but here's my question: What is the big advantage of changing the root password? Are there any disadvantages of doing that? Which change? From the thecus default password to "irresistable" or from "irresistable" to something else? Without the first change you cant login to the box because we dont know the thecus default password. The second change is purely a security issue. If i know the password for your n2100 because you never changed it after installing ssh and you expose it to the net then i have full access to it because i know that you've set the password to irresistable. From there i can use it to probe the rest of the machines on your network.

So when installing the SSH module, it's better to change the root password, but when the SSH module is not installed the Thecus default password(within firmware) is also ok. Is that true?

Basically... Yes! The ssh module ONLY allows access as the root user. You can install SSH without changing the password but you wont be able to use it because you wont know the password in order to log in. Therefore if you want to use SSH you MUST change the root password and the functionality exists in the SSH module to achieve this. What you dont want to do is leave it set to "irresistable" because if any hacker thinks that they're pointing at a n2100 the first thing they're going to try is that password. Use the passwd command to change the password.
