Hi,
This may be obvious but I can't seem to find the answers. I had my N5500 alarm for a degraded Raid (Raid 5) but before I was able to get a replacement HDD the unit went off on a scheduled power down. When it restarted the red light on the HDD was out and I read somewhere that after a restart the hot-swap auto rebuild doesn't work, and it needs to be done manually. I have 3.04.02 firmware. My questions are:
1) What is the process for swapping the HDD and rebuilding the Raid
2) The HDD's installed are Samsung HD204UI which I am told are a superseded item. I have managed to get 1 but can I use alternate make/model/capacity drives in future
3) Should I upgrade the firmware? I have always been reluctant to do that as the last time I did the equipment (not a Thecus NAS) just stopped working. The upgrade notes on the Thecus site say to back-up the raid prior to upgrading the firmware, but how do you back-up 4TB of data? That's why I got the NAS in the first place.
4) Can I, overtime, increase the capacity of the NAS. I currently have 5 x 2TB drives which in Raid 5 gives me about 8TB of storage. What is the max, if it isn't 10TB, that I can install and if I can upgrade does it have to happen at once or can I stage it over time?
Sorry for the long diatribe, but your assistance is greatly appreciated.
Mick
