I had 4 WD1000FPYPS-01KZB with drive firmware 2.0 installed in my N5200 and configured in RAID 5. Recently, as I was approaching capacity (526 GB available, 95%), I decided to add an additional drive and "Migrate" the RAID. I installed a WD10EADS (this is the non-enterprise version of the WD1000FPYPS). The only difference between this drive and the previous 4 (as far as I can tell) is the warranty and the drive firmware; 1.0. They are both "Green" drives.
I contacted Thecus for the "safe" procedure for migration. I followed the directions to a "t". The RAID began the process of migration. Over the course of several days, the migration went from 0% to 100% - no apparent problem. When the migration arrived at 100% a constant tone sounded and both the LCD and the webGUI indicated "DEGRADED". However, the webGUI showed the pie chart indicating the new expanded capacity. I let the NAS stand in this state for some time to make sure it was "done". I then tried to reboot. When the NAS restarted both the LCD and webGUI indicated "RAID:NONE"! The pie chart is also gone.
All the drives seem to be functioning normally. No failed drives.
I suspect a TLER issue...
WHAT HAPPENED???
HOW TO REPAIR???
Any help will be GREATLY appreciated.
