I just installed an N2100 and I was really surpised to find no NFS server. Who ever heard of a NAS solution without NFS? Huge disappointment!

NFS is available in the N2100 Linux kernel though! Just fetch the nfsd/mountd/portmap binaries from a Debian/ARM distribution (woody, not newer because of the old glibc on the N2100), and start them through an ssh login. That's what I did. Works like a charm! If you want I can make a tar file with all the needed binaries and startup scripts. I still haven't found the time to compile it into a N2100 module I also added Webdav support to Apache. This is a bit tricky since the webserver runs as root. I can make a tar file available if anybody is interested, and knows what he/she is doing

Thanks for the tarball tyz I really wish I would have changed the root ssh password before I upgraded my firmware.. no ssh for me! ah well, I guess I should have read these forums before I started playing with my new n2100.

Thanks a million dbridges, your module works great! ;D tyz, the nfsd files look pretty good too. I had a problem starting the server though. looks like portmap wants a shared library that isnt there. /raid/module/nfsd/sbin/portmap: error while loading shared libraries: libwrap.so.0: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory you guys both rock btw

update.. I grabbed the libwrap library from here: packages.debian.org/oldstable/base/libwrap0added libwrap.so.0.7.6 to /raid/modules/nfsd/lib and created the symlink for libwrap.so.0 in the same directory. then added this to tyz's nfs-kernel-server script: LD_LIBRARY_PATH=${PREFIX}/lib export LD_LIBRARY_PATH and now nfs is working great! thanks again guys.

added libwrap.so.0.7.6 to /raid/modules/nfsd/lib Ah, thanks for reporting! I missed that one, because I added /raid/debian-arm/lib (it contains a small Debian/ARM install) to /etc/ld.so.conf on my N2100. I've updated my website with a fixed version of the nfsd package. I've also added the tar files containing WebDAV support for Apache, and a UPnP A/V server. They're all available at www.xs4all.nl/~tyz/N2100/Mathijs

Hi,
I'm just curious, is it any faster than using SMB?
My machine is running Ubuntu, and so far I'm not impressed by the file transfer speed so I thought that NFS being a bit more Unix-ish it might make a slight difference?
Many thanks

I'am running SuSE 10.1 and NFS is really faster than smbclient. I get about 15 to 20 MByte/sec in read mode when using NFS instead of 4 to 5 MByte/sec with smb.
P.S. : I have solved my problem described above concerning the denied acces to the nfs server. The remote directory given in the mount command was wrong.

Hi, Could you please let me know what you modified, I can't connect through NFS, I get access denied all the time and I don't know what else to do (I'm a complete noob at NFS). Thanks
