Here is exactly what happened with my Thecus 4100Pro running 4 Western Digital 1.5TB Green drives in a Raid 5 confguration. This has been running perfectly for 72 days.
1) I went to my computer and all my Thecus mounts were unavailable.
2) When I tried to double click them, it said an error accured when trying to access \\N4100PRO\<mount>. The connection has not been restored.
3) I tried to access the NAS via 192.168.0.195/adm/index.php but it would not connect.
4) There were no error lights on the NAS, and it appeared to be working perfectly, but when I opened the door, I noticed all the blue indicator lights were on, but there was one single green indicator light stuck on for drive 2.
5) I used the power button to shut the NAS down. It said shutting down and I let it go for 30 minutes, but it never shut down.
6) I held the power button to force the unit to shut down.
7) When I powered the unit back up, the error light and the alarm came on. It says RAID 5 Degraded, but it does not tell me what drive is bad.
8) I can now access the NAS via 192.168.0.195/adm/index.php but again, no indication of a bad drive, however it says the RAID is made up of drives 1, 3 & 4, pointing to a bad drive 2.
9) I can access my files and when I do so with the door open, I can see all the drives being accessed except for drive 2. Again pointing to a bad drive 2.
10) All things are pointing to a bad drive 2, EXCEPT the NAS isn't telling me that drive 2 is bad which I thought was supposed to happen.
11) I'm concerned that it's not a drive 2 problem and it could be the NAS itself.
I've purchased another drive to replace the potential bad drive, but I'd like to know what you recommend on a procedure going forward.
Thank you!!
