After some time of active use, one of my hard drives finally failed. At that point I discovered that ALL of the trays had failed as well. Not only did the first one break when I tried to take it out, but that forced me to take out others, all of which broke as well.
It seems to me that the cheap plastic trays just cannot perform their function of making it physically possible to hotswap. I contacted thecus about this, who said trays aren't covered under warranty, and demanded $25 per replacement tray!
It seems completely obvious to me that the reason the trays aren't covered under warranty, is that thecus knows perfectly well that they don't perform as advertised.
Combined with the many other issues with the thing (poor support, failure to ever release a complete set of source as required by the GNU licenses, etc.) I'm pretty fed-up. "Stable until it fails" is not an answer!!!
