So I managed to SSH into my N4100PRO via putty using the SYSUSER and SSHD modules.
When I find the file I wish to modify img/bin/hdspin.sh it wont allow me to modify it because it says the file is read only.
Even if I try to create a new file or folder I get "Cannot create directory `test': Read-only file system"
What can I do from here? Why isn't this allowing me to do anything?

The FW part is stored in a read only area, You can only modify files which are store on the raid itself or on some limited areas (configuration areas or temporary areas) br Peter

peterfu: My HDD's don't seem to spin down at all these days. It started occurring after I updated to 3.x.
I'm using 2.x firmware now but I think that maybe the newer firmware corrupted the db file which hdspin.sh accesses for the sleep times.
Any suggestions?

I don't own a N4100pro, but I would try a factory reset and then configure everthing new. Downgrading has always some risk, cause settings are not changed and if they have changed the format or layout of the db file, then these are for sure not compatible with the older version. br Peter
