Hi,
I have Thecus N299 NAS. I have installed 2 500GB drives and created a RAID 1.
Hoever when I try and access any of the other options through the web interface I get the following error.
"please config the RAID first then carry on with the FW installation to complete the setup procedure"
So I applied the latest firmware to the box V1.00.34 but once I did that it wiped the RAID configuration. I tried again, this time applying the FW before creating the RAID but that did not solve the problem, I even tried to Upload the firmware a second time after configuring the RAID and again it removed the RAID config.
This is SO frustrating, it takes around 3-4 Hours to create the RAID so everytime this does not work I am losing half a day! What do I need to do to get rid of that message and use the NAS properly?
Any help would be much appreciated.....
Ian

Hi, I have Thecus N299 NAS. I have installed 2 2TB drives and created a JBOD. Hoever when I try and access any of the other options through the web interface I get the following error.
"please config the RAID first then carry on with the FW installation to complete the setup procedure" So I applied the latest firmware to the box V1.00.41 but once I did that it wiped the RAID configuration. I tried again, this time applying the FW before creating the RAID but that did not solve the problem, I even tried to Upload the firmware a second time after configuring the RAID and again it removed the RAID config.

To give it a try again, use RAID-0. Creation takes less time (few minutes) and then you can test over again if it doesn't work.
What you can try also is start a JBOD with 1 disk and then change it to RAID-1 for the 2 disks.
I bought my sister a N299 a year ago and in my opinion: stay away from the cheap Thecus models. Crappy support and not stable. Take care you'll always have a backup!

Thanks for the tips, but I have a problem arises when you create a JBOD disks using 2Tb. When you create an array of drives using JBOD volume 1Tb, no problem. How can that be understood the device, a hard disk 2Tb? Which model advise, more reliable?

Well officially the N299 does not support that type of disks, only until 500gb. I've read some people using 1gb disks, but the chance is big you're type (model/brand) of harddisk is not going to work in that crappy unit. In my opinion solid products start with the SMB product line of Thecus, check www.thecus.com/products_index.php?set_language=english

Do not scold N299 so I have it faithfully for a year worked with two HDD on each 1Tb and think of the next owner will work without problems) And myself I have already chosen N3200PRO. He was pleased to support the screws on each 2Tb.
