Ok Thanks Peter,
I am very much a novice in Linux.
When you say unpack it, where should I unpack it to?
Under Mods or somewhere else.
I have sys installed on my 5200 so I can get to a prompt to run things but I am still a little lost.
Thanks for any help!

Sorry I have created a share for that to have also access then via SMB to test all the stuff - but You may also create somewhere else a folder (i.e /raid/data/module/MEDIATOMB) but I would not do it, cause this is forseen for module management. The advanatge for using a share is, YOu can use Your favourite windows tools for unpacking - and if You have to change files then a linux style editor for that - please don't edit the scripts or configuration files with notepad - this will destroy the scripts. br Peter

So you created a share in folders, unpacked everything to the new share then went in with sys and executed the build process?
Just making sure what you're saying.

Yes, but I've unpacked everything using the command line and also changed the config file via the build in editor on commandline. br Peter

The version I've tested was not very impressive - especially the lack of configuration via web interface and the possibility to be binded only to one interface. But it looked very promising and it was working fine with my MP3, divx and xvid files. br Peter

Peter,
Ok, I have everything unpacked into a share folder under Raid/Data/Mediatomb. What did you execute for the build and what did you do in the config file?
BTW, it says it uses a web interface now...let's see if you like it any better....

OK - have done it now myself and heres a step by step instruction: 1) create a folder i.e named MediaTomb 2) copy the static packed binary to that folder 3) ssh into the box and go to the MediaTomb share
4) unpack the archive with the command
(thats the most current version now) 5) chance now to the created mediatomb directory
6) now You have to modify the mediatomb.sh file - the new at my setup looks like:
NOTE : - the parameter -i gives the IP Adress the server is binded to, so replace it with Your IP adress of Your Thecus BOX - the parameter -p gives the port the mediatomb web interface listens 7) if You have saved the file You are ready to start the server the first time with the command
NOTE: You have to be still in the directory where the mediatomb.sh file is located
Now the server should have been started verify this with the command
and You should see a similar output:
Now You can access the web interface with your browser by typing in Your adress line
The configuration is stored in the file /raid/data/MediaTomb/mediatomb/config/config/xml.
To stop the server You have to kill the process with the command
the second number given as parameter to the kill command is the process ID (PID) - this is the number in the first collumn if the output of the ps command. In my case it's 2249 - it might be different in Your case.
Log file is /raid/data/MediaTomb/mediatomb/mediatomb.log (that is the -l parameter in the startup script).
Theres a lot of other startup command line parameters and possibiliies for the config file and it's well documented in the online documentation.
Important: linux is case sensitive, so all Your folders and file names have to be written also case sensitive (i.e the file "test" is another one as the file "TEST")
Have fun Peter

Hello Peter,
I must be doing something wrong...
I modified mediatomb.sh the way you said...
I go to start it but it keeps saying that there is no mediatomb.sh.
I can see it, modify it..but can't start it with the ./mediatomb.sh
When I use putty and do a LS, I get mediatomb.sh* in yellow.

How have You modified it ? Can You do a following command: ls -lsa in the directory where the mediatomb.sh is located?
You have to do the command ./mediatomb.sh on the command line after logging in via putty. br Peter

Ya I modified it exactly per your instructions.
I see mediatomb.sh* when doing a ls -lsa.
I am in the directory: Root@127.0.0.1:/raid/data/Mediatomb/mediatomb
This is the path I put while editing mediatomb.sh.
I used winzip to unpacking and copied it on to the Mediatomb share.
I used Notepad+ to do the edit.
